Redlands. I had a good run, but when my responsibilities as a daughter expanded, I had to shift my priorities. Dancing started to fade into the background around 2012, but I still managed to hold onto one class for a few years. I even found time to attend an event once in a while. Hanging on to that class is how I became involved with Shimmy Mob. A classmate learned about it and invited others to participate. She shared that her first husband was abusive. I was surprised when others opened up to tell their stories. I wondered if any other women I knew had been, or still were, in abusive relationships. She started a team in Riverside, and we were happy to stand with her. We danced along the pedestrian mall downtown at the Mission Inn. After dancing with Team Riverside for about five years, I moved to Four Seasons and joined a team in Palm Springs. This time, two of my new neighbors came along. In 2019, we danced on Palm Canyon Drive and again at the Westfield Mall in Palm Desert. In 2020, we formed a team here. Unfortunately, 2020 had different plans. Last year, two of us danced virtually. We don't know what to expect in 2022, but we're ready to try again. Registration ends on March 31. The event takes place on May 14. Visit shimmymob.com for more information. If you choose to sign up, or if you have any questions, contact me at 4seasonsmob@gmail. com. You cannot register through the public portal. Four Seasons is a private group. You need a specific link to access our team. Our health and safety come first. Due to the pandemic, this group is currently open to residents, family, and friends. The registration fee includes your t-shirt and a donation to support victims of domestic violence. Teams can also collect tips from spectators to raise additional donations for their local charities. You don't have to learn on your own as long as we can safely gather. You don't need experience so don't worry about your abilities. My hips don't lie; they hurt. We'll make modifications to accommodate our skill levels and seasoned bodies. Other than Shimmy Mob, I haven't been dancing much. Real life got in the way, favorite instructors retired, and joints stopped moving as freely as they once did. Regardless, I may need to incorporate dance back into my life. Although I'm out of practice and out of shape, it is a privilege to be in a position to give, rather than receive, this support. I have a safe home and a loving husband. I'm thankful to be so fortunate.
