56 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | FEBRUARY 2022 Size Matters If you tried this excercise in the past and failed, do not worry it is not your fault. Size matters and using the correct hoop is essential to keeping it from falling to the floor. Hula Hoops come in many sizes and weights. Eventually, you will use several varied dimensions as your hooping skills increase. Beginners should start with a regular adult size, three-quarter inch diameter hoop. The smaller the hoop, the faster it spins. The larger the hoop the slower the swirl so start with a larger hoop. It is important to know your floor to belly button dimensions. The correct size Hula Hoop should touch the ground and come up to your abdomen or higher. A weightier Hula Hoop that is too heavy can restrict your movement making it hard to dance or stay in control of the hoop while transitioning between tricks. You can also risk injury to your joints as well. Weighted hoops are typically for waist exercise only and not for using on your arms, knees, or neck. You want a hoop that is easy on the joints and allows you to move gracefully. This exercise provides core strength, increases muscle tone and flexibility, burns fat, and increases spinal mobility which can help with improving balance, bending, reaching, or twisting. The more you move, the better the outcome. Calories are burned more quickly and effectively with lively aerobic activity. You need a hoop light enough so that it allows you to play and have fun. Come join our club. It will be exciting and fun! We meet on Fridays at 7:30 am in the Aerobics Room at The Lodge. No experience necessary. Call Regina Thomas at (909) 534-4918 for more information. ~ Regina Ross, rdross629@gmail.com Hello Four Seasons residents! Winter is here and we die hards still play paddle tennis. We have scheduled times to play, although the courts are available any time The Lodge is open. Scheduled time is now Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 2 to 4 pm then also Saturday mornings (look for times in our 'WhatsApp' application). If you play tennis, racquetball, squash, pickleball, or even ping pong, you should pick up the game quickly; it's closest to playing tennis with a smaller size court. Tennis players either switch or play both sports and quickly and easily adapt and do well. We also have training classes held by Paco. Contact me at (909) 210-9359 for times. Once you start playing, it's hard not to continue. So give it a try. There are no restrictions or advance booking necessary. We have a 'Whatsapp.' Contact me for instructions and an invite to join our 'WhatsApp' Group. This will provide you with current times and dates of play. See you all at the paddle courts. ~ Syed Ali, o2browing@aol.com Paddle Tennis Hula Hoop Club Weighted Hoops are thicker and heavier and primarily used for waist exercise only
