| LIFE IN SOLERA | FEBRUARY 2022 | 21 Who are the folks who host our karaoke every month? Let's start off with D.J. Blast (Blas Vallejo). D.J. Blast has been a radio personality who began doing radio at KCRW in Santa Monica. Blas also hosted radio shows on KHOP Stereo 104 in Modesto as well as KWG 1230 AM in Stockton. Blas has interviewed recording stars B.J.Thomas,James Darren,Bo Diddley, Chubby Checker, Donna Fargo, Johnny Lee, Cheap Trick, Wolfman Jack, and many others. D.J. Blast is joined by his Karaoke team members Rosie and Barb. Rosie Ingalls has been mistaken as a Julia Roberts look-a-like. She organizes the karaoke singers who want to perform. Barb Miller was a hostess and nightclub singer at a place called Paul Diamico's in Palm Springs. Frank Sinatra and his Rat Pack became regulars at Paul Diamico's and were very impressed with Barb's skills as a hostess and of her singing talent. This Karaoke team is the untapped secret that many of us have missed but can still catch at our Clubhouse every third Friday of the month. This month we have considered making our Karaoke theme a Valentine's Day celebration. Here's a list of love songs that D.J. Blast suggested as songs to sing at our February Valentine's Karaoke. • My Heart Will Go On, Celine Dion • I Will Always Love You, Whitney Houston • You Needed Me, Anne Murray • I Can't Help Falling In Love With You, Elvis Presley • For Sentimental Reasons, Nat King Cole • Because You Loved Me, Celine Dion • Unchained Melody, The Righteous Brothers • Amazed, Lonestar • You Decorated My Life, Kenny Rogers • Unforgettable, Nat & Natalie Cole These songs are just the tip of the iceberg of the type of songs that are available for you to sing when you join our monthly Karaoke with Barb Miller, Rosie Ingalls, and D.J. Blast. See you this February. HIGH NOTES FROM KARAOKE Following considerable thought and discussion, the Solera Sippers Board of Directors and Steering Committee made the decision to postpone the "Wine Bingo" event on Jan. 15 and the Italian-themed event on Feb. 12. The safety of our members is the top priority relative to all Sippers events and, in light of the rapid spread of the highly contagious Omicron variant, the decision to postpone these events was made. Postponement of these two events allows the Board and Steering Committee time to assess the situation with respect to planning future events. Currently, the March 19 Membership Party is still active, however, it is subject to review as the virus situation unfolds. Even though events have been postponed, once they are rescheduled, it will still be necessary for members that have not supplied proof of vaccination on record to do so in order to take part in events.
