14 | THE COLONY NEWS | FEBRUARY 2022 | COMMITTEE NEWS By Gloria Brosky & Jodi Harris While walking and driving through The Colony, many of us have noticed all the home improvements and signs of TLC within our special community. Thank you to those who are doing your part in making and keeping The Colony looking good! Spring will soon be here, and along with it comes an abundant selection of flowers and plants to brighten our homes and gardens. Enjoy a stroll in your favorite nursery for great ideas and possibly a few new plants. While out doing Home Inspections, we had a homeowner ask what we were looking for during the inspection. So, here are the main things we look at during our visit: Stucco – is it faded in areas? Do you have dirt or rust stains flowing down the walls from the clogged rain gutters or rusted gutter nails? Stucco wall – is it black from dirt or mold (hopefully not mold)? Wrought iron front gates or back wrought iron fences – is paint chipping off? Is rust showing? Is part of the fence no longer there because of rust? Wood trim – is it in need of a coat of paint? Wooden fence – is it in need of repair or paint? Is it beginning to lean to the side? Being proactive will save you in the long run. You might think we are being nitpicky, but if rust begins on wrought iron, it can be stopped and we are just bringing this to your attention. In some areas of The Colony, we can look at the backside of your wrought iron fence. Do you ever make a trip to see the backside? There are homes that have privacy or decorative bushes on the inside of your yard, but do you ever inspect the backside? Being proactive with wrought iron and rain gutters and keeping your house paint and stucco walls clean and painted can save you extra expense in the end. ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL ACCESS CONTROL & SAFETY The Access Control and Safety Committee is an advisory committee to The Colony HOA Board of Directors and the General Manager relating to all issues of community access and safety of residents and visitors. In the event of a major disaster, we will work hand-in-hand with the Emergency Preparedness Committee to assist in maintaining the integrity and safety of all Colony residents. Our function is to evaluate access control and general safety of The Colony and the effectiveness of Community Patrol. The Access Control Committee receives monthly reports and statistics from Community Patrol (Nordic Security). These reports include traffic enforcement, emergency responses and incident reports. The monthly report from Community Patrol indicates the following activity and violations that Nordic Security responded to and/or assisted in keeping with the safety and welfare for the Association: Security Statistics There were a total of 22,729 gate entries recorded in December 2021, comprised of guests, recreational vehicles, vendors and golfers. Nordic Security performed four property/residence checks and issued 13 citations for stop sign violations and one for speeding. There were 16 medical, fire and police incidents. Nordic cited 38 residents for various parking violations, guest pass violations, and guest/vendor violations. Thirteen residents were cited for putting trash cans out too early and/or not putting them away. Eleven garage doors were found to be open, and Nordic made calls to each resident to advise them to close their garage doors. Nordic responded to 22 miscellaneous incidents related to trespassers, tailgating, noise complaints, one deceased resident, gate strikes, vendors, gas leak, one lost resident, improper signage and broken sprinkler systems.
