COMMITTEE NEWS | THE COLONY NEWS | FEBRUARY 2022 | 15 I am writing this in January and you're reading it in February, but I guess it's not too late to wish you all the happiest of New Years and ask you for help in participating in several of our projects. We urge you to pick up your cell phone, still camera or video camera and record an activity that is significant to you. This documentation may include tennis, swimming, pickleball, performing in the chorus, karaoke nights, club meetings or committee activities. Then please submit them to Kara Hardy, our Activities Director, to be included in our Colony Daze, which will be a year in the life of an active senior community. We look forward to your submissions. Secondly, it's essential to ask all of you to be active participants in our Outreach to History project. For the past year, we've been preparing to begin videotaping interviews with those of you who have been here for an extended period. These interviews will allow us to create a video archive for the future. Members of the committee will be contacting you for your participation. In addition, we would appreciate recommendation of names of any of our older residents who would help describe The Colony's past. Please send your suggestions to my attention at greg@neotechstudios.com. We also are extremely excited about welcoming our first graphic designer, Linda Hopkins, who has joined our committee. Her design skills will greatly benefit us in many ways. While we are on this subject, why don't you participate with us? There are so many opportunities on the Communications Committee. We welcome you aboard; feel free to fill out an application. We have plenty of positions to fill. And finally wrapping things up, we are actively utilizing the new monitors and desks recently purchased for us by the Board of Directors. As this is February, we want to wish each of you a delightful Valentine's Day! Grab your cellphone camera, still camera, or video camera! Take a photo or video of your favorite Colony activites or events and enter them for a prize in two categories: Individual and Committee/Clubs. Media may be submitted between now and Dec. 31, 2022. Please send your submission to kara.hardy@associa.us. The Communications Committee will then combine these photos and videos into a finished documentary which will be available for new resident orientation, marketing, and general presentations. Prizes will be awarded for the media submissions best representation of life in an active senior community. Please see Kara in the Activities Office if you need assistance transferring your media files. COMMUNICATIONS COLONY DAZE A year in the life of an active senior community By Greg Hill Valentine's Day is approaching, and we are wondering, "Where, oh where, have all the little romance books gone?" Seriously, the library has seen very few of the little 2019, 2020 and 2021 romance books. When a few come in they soon leave, never to be seen again. Unfortunately, the same is true for all the variety of subjects the library has. You may have noticed there are a lot of empty spaces on the shelves. The library functions on the honor system, and we are hoping to continue that way. The idea is that you may borrow any of the books, puzzles, magazines or digital media items, but they need to be returned in a timely manner. So please, look around your house and see if there are items you forgot to return. We are also happy to receive only donations of books with a copyright date of 2014 or newer, and the latest 2 months of periodicals (please, NO CATALOGS, MAPS, TOURING BOOKS, AAA, etc.). If you have other items or older books, please donate them to the Friends of the Library or your favorite charity. LIBRARY By Janet Baasch, 951-461-7232
