38 | THE COLONY NEWS | FEBRUARY 2022 | CLUB NEWS Our resident tennis pro and coach, John Knitter, is offering free tennis lessons to all Colony residents who would like to learn or up their game. Lessons are every third Saturday of the month from noon to 1 pm. Our next lesson will be on Feb. 19. You will be practicing a few different drills each month and if you would like, John will also work with you in small groups during the week. The Colony's USTA tennis team, consisting of residents Captain Jeanne Bender, Karen Alonzo, Kris Smith, Cece Gordon and Tammy Holmes, as well as Judy Alexander and Annie Noblett, had their first tournament match on Sunday, Jan. 9, at the Murrieta Tennis Club. We played two doubles matches and one singles match against a team that has played together for some time. We did not come out on top, but we held our own and had some good games. We appreciated all who came out to support and cheer us on! Our February matches on the courts at The Colony will be on Sunday, Feb. 6, and Sunday, Feb. 20, at 10 am. Please feel free to join us and cheer on the home team!
