HOA NEWS | THE COLONY NEWS | FEBRUARY 2022 | 3 When it was my turn in the past to provide an article for The Colony News, it always centered around financial matters. This time I decided to change it up. I came across a recent Community Association Institute survey about neighbor relations in HOAs that I found interesting. Here are some of the highlights: • 50 percent of those surveyed say they have become closer to their neighbors during and following the COVID-19 pandemic. • 60 percent of residents participate in multiple social or recreational activities organized by the HOA. • Only 6 percent of residents reported that they don't participate in any neighborhood events or community activities. • 60 percent of respondents say they know their neighbors very well. • 90 percent of those surveyed believe they are a good neighbor, citing being caring, helpful and respectful as characteristics that contribute to an overall healthy community. This survey was done over a broad spectrum of HOAs, not just 55+ communities, but I think it reflects how we are as a community of neighbors. It supports my belief that community associations, and particularly The Colony, bring people together and create an environment where neighbors connect and support each other.
