| OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2022 | 33 Village Vets I would like to thank the many veterans and supporters who came out on Do Dues Day and joined us for the first time in 2022, as well as our established members. A special thanks to those members who worked at our table for the event. We plan on having a good year of speakers and activities and of course, support active-duty military at Camp Pendleton, whenever we can. For our next general membership meeting we are planning to have a speaker from the nearby San Diego station to talk about what the Coast Guard does to maintain law and order on the seas in and around our area. We will have more details as we communicate with that organization. For many years now, Home Depot and Lowe's have offered retired military and others with a military I.D. a 10 percent discount on most purchases. Recently both Home Depot and Lowe's have now extended the discount to all veterans. So, if you can dig up your DD214, VA I.D. Cards or other proof of military service, you can register with either or both merchants for the discount on future purchases. It could save you money. If you did not rejoin us on Do Dues Day, you can also submit your $10 per person annual dues for 2022 any time at the Clubhouse front desk. If you will be a new member please include, "2022 dues" a phone number or email address so we can contact you for more information and make sure you get our monthly Bugle publication. We will continue to support our OHCC veterans, their families, and active-duty military in many ways with your support. OCEAN HILLS VETS DO US PROUD! The Veterans Writing Group of San Diego was formed several years ago to reach out to fellow veterans with an interest in getting their stories told. Now in their fourth and most recent book, AT EASE - Now that I have time to think about it, Ocean Hills Country Club has nine veteran stories that were submitted, accepted and published, and one was crafted by a "civilian." All of the stories are great and are really worth reading and you may even know some of the authors: Joe Ashby, Jim McDonough, Jack Pivo, Richard Quandt, Frank Ritter, Bob Wong, Doug Wright and that one civilian, Donna Russell! There are two copies in our Library along with copies of the three previous books in the Veterans Section. Check one out and please return it when you are finished so others will have a chance to read it as well.
