6 | OHCC LIVING | FEBRUARY 2022 | Golf Course Renovation Report As promised in our last article, the Golf Course Renovation video is now available on our OHCC website under the tab Golf Course Construction Project. The video is a combination of video shot on foot by Rob Schoonover and Jim Kaminsky from our AV Committee, and drone footage of the entire course shot by a licensed drone pilot arranged by Greg Coffey. We have narration and description by Bob Fisher and Don Lopez. This large editing project was done by Anthony Scalise, our OHCC Technical Advisor. This first video had to describe not only what was already completed, but also the design intent of the project. There will be future installments to document the changes made from this base. Therefore, the future videos will be shorter. Some of this drone footage even shows ocean views from our beautiful village. The front 9 has been seeded with Rye Grass. It is growing slowly due to our cooler weather. The Bent Grass on the greens is sprouting but growing slowly as expected. The surrounds were seeded with Bermuda and are growing as expected. As you may know, most grassing would normally be done in the August-September time frame. The delays caused by our many pandemic restrictions made that impossible, so we will now accept the longer grow-in period expected in the winter months. If we were to tell you it would be reasonable to expect to start playing on the front 9 by April, 2022, that would be more of a prayer than a promise. I hope you understand our position. We have some very good news about our front 9 renovation. We use the putting green and the first hole to access the course with all of the trucks and equipment for the construction. We expected not to be able to finish the first hole until the back 9 was completed. That would mean we would have to play holes 2 through 10 for the front 9. Candyl Golf responded to our requests to figure another way to access the back 9. They have worked out a narrow pathway for their trucks for the back 9, so they now are completing the putting green, the first tee, and the chipping green the week of Jan. 11. That means the front 9 will be completed in sequence for our opening of the front 9 before the completion of the back 9. That will work out better for all. We expect the final working drawings for the lake design the week of Jan. 14. After Board approval, Candyl Golf will apply for the excavation permit to dig the lake. Most of the lateral irrigation lines are in on the back 9 and all of the main lines are in. I hope you enjoy the video of the Golf Course Renovation as of November, 2021. That is the first of its genre of any construction project in OHCC. I have great hopes for our creative ability to develop this area of expertise, certainly as it applies to the golf course, but others as well. By Don Lopez, Golf Course Renovation Committee Chairman
