Wags & Walk Sat., Aug. 10: Yucaipa Animal Placement Society (YAPS) and Canine Companions are holding a fun monthly walk with the animals. Scheduled for the second Saturday of every month, as weather permits, animal lovers are encouraged to bring their leashed and vaccinated dogs to walk. Lacking in a walking companion? Take one of the dogs awaiting a new home and brighten their day with a fun-filled adventure. Wags and Walk is an ongoing monthly event. The fun begins at 8:30 am. People and their four-legged friends are encouraged to join dog trainer, Kym Caldwell of Canine Companions, for a nice stroll that will depart from the shelter. Participants are encouraged to arrive by 8 am to prepare for the journey. With plenty of trails and walkways in the area, the options are sure to be an endless opportunity for a good time and provide health benefits for all. "It's a wonderful opportunity to spend time with your favorite four-legged friend whether it's yours or one of ours, as well as meet like-minded animal lovers," said Director Nicole Laffey. "We are excited to work with Kym in offering this opportunity to dogs and their people." Please remember to come prepared for both people and pets; water and bags for waste clean-up are necessary. For more information on the walks, please contact YAPS at 909-790-1440. C•O•N•N•E•C•T Yucaipa Social media has made the world a smaller place, and have made small places, like Yucaipa, practically intimate. There are a few sites on Facebook we want you to check out, if you're so inclined. The first, of course, is "Our Yucaipa." We will be posting every issue of the magazine on this site each month and will have fun extras in the online issues. We also invite you to contact us with your Yucaipa stories, experiences, and photos at our page. The second is "You Know You're From Yucaipa If…" which allows residents to share their memories of our town. Finally, "The Front Porch - Yucaipa," is a great site for sharing tips about local service providers, finding out what's going on uptown, where the fire trucks are headed, etc. My favorite part about this group is that it encourages sharing good news and, according to Marnie Lopez the administrator, "has helped to create a 'Pay It Forward' outlook for so many." Hope to see you on the Internet Machine! OUR YUCAIPA | AUGUST 2013 11
