On Sat., June 29, we held our first annual year-ending Awards Presentation and Dinner at the South Clubhouse. After forming on July 5, 2012, we recently completed four three-month seasons of billiards (8-Ball) play. Players and their guests enjoyed a tri-tip roast and chicken dinner catered by Skip Thomas Catering of Hemet. To celebrate our first year, we conducted a short business meeting and then announced Cue Masters as the 2013 spring season winning team. Their team and individual names are etched onto a rosewood plaque, the perpetual trophy that is displayed in the Billiards Room. While most team members were out of town, present to accept the award was Larry Light and Tom Keheley. Other members of the team were Hank Huisman, Kerry Collins, Ron Smith, Ken Mills, Gary Strachn, and Bob Kemp. We also presented a Sharp-Shooter Award, to recognize the player with the best all-round performance throughout the year. This award is based on percent of games and matches won, the average length of matches, the number of 8-onbreaks and run-and-8's, plus some strategy criteria. Three players were in the running: Dennis Armatis, Jim Lanford, and Tom Keheley. But as the numbers indicated, it was Tom who outperformed everyone and won the award. Tom was humble in his acceptance, but everyone agreed it was richly deserved. We are on summer hiatus due to the large number of folks who travel over the summer. The next organized play will be our Fall 2013 Season, which begins on Thurs., Sept. 5. Any Sun Laker is eligible to join by signing their name on the chalkboard in the Billiards Room. Cost to join a team is $10 for each three month season. pickleball & paddle tennis Do you want to make new friends and meet fun people? Improve balance, agility and cardio?
