international culture club dinner dance club With summer in full swing, we're looking forward to that special evening out with a delicious sit-down dinner and a lively evening of dancing. On Aug. 17, Dakoda will play the great dance music that will keep us moving and grooving to the upbeat sounds of the night. The menu offers a wonderful variety. A refreshing BLT salad with dinner rolls will start the meal. Three mouthwatering entrées are offered for your choice. Chicken Parmesan is the first entrée that will be served with roasted potatoes and carrots and asparagus to finish this plate for $20. If you prefer the vegetarian choice, you will have eggplant Parmesan. This is available for $18. For those who would prefer a fish dinner, salmon is available for $22. This, too, offers the roasted potatoes with carrots and asparagus. Then, what could be more refreshing than a dessert of strawberry shortcake. With the doors opening at 5:30 pm be sure to come and enjoy all of your friends and neighbors. The music begins at 6 pm and will go until 9:30 pm. Sign-ups for this dance will be held in the Main Clubhouse Multipurpose Room on Thurs., Aug. 8. Table selections will begin at 2:30 pm so be sure to come early enough to have your paperwork completed in time for the picking of the tables. Fear not! If you have a problem and will not be able to attend the dance even though you were signed-up, just call Carol Rhine (845-5962) before 3 pm on the day of the dance and she will be able to help you. Have you ever seen all the people on the dance floor? They are always smiling! 80s plus club We had a very Western afternoon last meeting tapping our feet to the very entertaining "Noteables." They opened their show with "Hey Good-Looking" and then did some Johnny Cash songs. Solos were Robert singing "Lady," Betty doing "Help Me Make it Through the Night," and Gaylord performed "All My Exes Live in Texas." Some members got a kick out of it — they never heard the song before. The show ended with a very patriotic "Star Spangled Celebration." Thanks ladies and gentlemen for a very fun show. We meet the second Saturday at South Clubhouse, 3 pm. Info., Barb 845-7904. 14 | sun lakes lifestyles | august 2013 | social clubs & groups On Thurs., Aug. 8, we will celebrate the Philippines for the first time. The U.S.A. shares a long history with them as we were a protectorate to them as we were to Hawaii and Alaska until they voted for statehood with the U.S. The Philippines chose a different route through referendum and voted for independence after the Pacific War with Japan ended. Shortly after our fleet was attacked at Pearl Harbor, the Philippines were invaded by the Japanese and many of our soldiers were taken prisoner and held until General Macarthur was able to return and free them Sign ups are located at the North Clubhouse on the day of the event at 3 pm. It is $22 for members and $25 for a non-resident guest. Doors open at 5:30 pm. Music by John Destry will start at 6 pm and the buffet will call people by table at 6:30 pm. Hawaiian dinner rolls and butter along with an appetizer of Lumpia (veggie egg rolls) with sweet and sour sauce will be pre-set on the table. Entree of chicken adobo, pancit with baby shrimp and rice noodles, fried rice and oriental vegetables on the buffet line, and coconut ice cream with an almond cookie with a mango wedge will be table served for dessert. If you find that you cannot attend after signing up, call Martie Steggell at 769-3207 for a take out dinner box. Info., Diane, 769-9308. international dancers A wonderful "Taste of Singapore" hosted by Roland and Joan Lau in June was attended by our members, spouses and special guests. Members were dressed in Singapore Airlines Stewardess outfits of red, blue, and green. Great colors. These are the same outfits the airline has used for 20 years and they are still quite fashionable. After a wonderful dinner catered by the Laus, Roland gave an interesting, well spoken orientation on Singapore and its neighbors. During the evening, we all wished a happy 70th birthday to Pat Cordova and a happy 50th anniversary to Marv and Martia Steggell. Our June schedule was quite busy with six local/Sun Lakes performances. July will be less active due to travel/vacations. Still we are welcoming new members.
