SOLERA DIAMOND VALLEY | MARCH 2022 11 After the winds in January, found at the entrance to the North Paseo. See them tumbling down Pledging their love to the ground Lonely but free I'll be found Drifting along with the tumbling tumbleweeds Song lyrics by Bob Nolan, singer with the Sons of the Pioneers Driftin' Along Tumbling Tumbleweeds By Kathy Caraher, Resident In the spring of 2018, I came to visit my cousin Teresa. She had recently purchased a home in this community. Coming from Washington state where it had been rainy, cloudy, and depressing for a few months, I was ready for some sunshine. About three days into my visit, with no rain, beautiful blue skies, and lots of sunshine, I declared to Teresa that I probably should look at a few houses. Just to see what was available. I set up an appointment with the local realtor for the next day. We went to four or five places and my last stop was a HIT! We walked into the home and I was smitten. It was amazing how many items on my imaginary checklist I could mark off! The crowning glory was walking out the patio door. There was a beautiful semi-circular patio of stone blocks, edged by a matching short wall and a flowing pathway through the garden of unusual (to me) plantings. Besides a huge paddle cactus, several tall trees and all my favorite roses there were arbors, fruit trees, a drip system and wonderful southern exposure. And finally, there was a raised garden bed! Having been a gardener since early childhood, I knew this place had my name all over it! That day I signed on the dotted line. It has now been almost four years since I moved in. The learning curve transitioning to a waterwise desert garden has been a long one. When to plant, when to prune, how much to water, which plants will survive? It is nothing like Washington! But my gosh, can I grow phenomenal tomatoes here! In fact, most plants I put in the garden do incredibly well. Maybe I should share some of my learning experiences? So many of us have come from different climates. What do you like to grow? Why I Bought My Home NEW CITIZENS, GOOD FRIENDS! The Wine Wednesday regulars wanted to congratulate Gill and Alan Woodhart on becoming United States citizens!
