FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2022 45 Country Line Dancing All who attended our February party had a wonderful time. Everyone was full of energy when it started and slowly started sitting out a few dances as the evening progressed. When it was near the end, only the hard-core dancers were still on the floor. If you want to join in on the fun, mark your calendars for April 30. We would love to have you join us. Our very beginning dancers have been hard at work learning basic line dance steps for about a month now. They are gradually getting the hang of some of the steps and are learning the new steps more easily. None of us were born dancing. It is a learning process and they are practicing at home to get the steps down. It takes time, energy, and patience to learn anything new. Most importantly, do not just give up. Each of us learns at a different pace. Just because someone else picks up the steps faster or slower than you, it doesn't matter. Go at your own pace. Be proud of what you have learned. Besides, I have some dancers that have stayed in the beginning class for years because it is comfortable for them and that is all they want to do. Relish your differences and enjoy the dance! Stop by any Tuesday between 1:30 to 3:30 pm and watch if you would like. Our goal is to get some exercise, have some fun, and enjoy the music with friends. Hope to see you on the dance floor one of these days. ~ Martha Franck, marthafranck@icloud.com, (714) 345-8588 Let's Dance! We are looking forward to dancing the East Coast Swing in March. This is one of the most fun and versatile dances in partner dancing! It can be done to current music, Big Band, 50s, Country Western, and almost everything in between. The best part of East Coast Swing is how simple it is to learn. Once you learn the basic pattern, you just add turns etc. and you've got it! You can adjust it for really fast music – too fast? Just slow it down. Too slow? We'll show you how to speed it up! Either way, this is a dance you can dance on cruises, at weddings, or almost any gathering — and it is sooooo FUN! For our more advanced dancers, we will be dancing the West Coast Swing. It is a little more challenging, but it is such a fun dance that it is worth the effort! Plan to join us in the Ballroom Monday nights. We begin with an open practice for all members from 6 to 6:30 pm. This serves as a review for all. Beginners class is 6:30 to 7:30 pm and Advanced class is 7:30 to 8:30 pm. The cost is $10 per person and you are invited to attend both classes if you choose. Today, most dancing is about recreation and self- expression, although it can also be done as a competitive activity. It can be a way to stay fit for people of all ages, shapes, and sizes. Dancing is exercising and has a wide range of benefits including: • improved condition of your heart and lungs • increased muscular strength, endurance, and motor fitness • better coordination, agility and flexibility • improved balance and spatial awareness • increased physical confidence • improved mental functioning "LINE DANCE: a choreographed dance in which a group of people dance along to a repeating sequence of steps while arranged in one or more rows. These rows usually face all in the same direction, or less commonly face each other (contra)." (Wikipedia) If you are thinking of joining a line dance class, here are some things to consider: • Arrive early or on time. Warm-up dances are important. • Layer clothing that you can take off as your body warms up. • Bring and drink plenty of water before, during and after dancing. • Don't push yourself too far or too fast, especially if you are a beginner. • Wear appropriate, fitted shoes (flip-flops/mules can be dangerous). • Check with your dance instructor that you are holding the correct form. • Move as fluidly and gracefully as you can. • Cool down after a dance session, including stretching. • As with any new exercise program, if you have a medical condition check with your doctor to make sure. We meet each Wednesday in The Lodge Ballroom. Beginners: 4 to 5 pm. Improver/Intermediate: 5 to 6 pm. You may contact me Priscilla Robles at (909) 239-6464. See you on the dance floor. ~ Priscilla Robles
