62 FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | MARCH 2022 Typically, the official first day of spring is March 1 (and the last is May 31). Weather scientists divide the year into quarters to make it easier to compare seasonal and monthly statistics from one year to the next. After a cold and windy winter, I am sure that we are all looking forward to the arrival of spring. This also brings some good news in that the four new shuffleboard courts are finally completed. Hallelujah! However, don't get too excited yet because the courts are currently not playable. We are in the process of having plans drawn up by our resident architect Willis Fagan. He is going to design safe and functional surrounding areas to the new shuffleboard courts and by doing this, it will enable the HOA and Board of Directors to receive contractor bids that are all based on the exact same project details. Hopefully, this can all be completed, with all of the construction, in the next couple of months so that we can start playing safely on the new courts. In the meantime, we continue to play shuffleboard each Monday and Saturday at 9 am at The Lodge. We have a great group of residents who enjoy coming out to play for fun but yet they are still very competitive. We choose up different teams each time we play to keep the competition challenging. This is an easy game to learn and to play. If you haven't played before, we can help you get your skill level up in no time. So all are welcome! After your morning coffee and/or breakfast, come out and join us to get some fresh air and a little exercise while having fun. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me, Marty Rotman, at mrtmj@aol.com or (310) 948-1693. ~ Marty Rotman As they say, "Time MARCHes On," get it? Cold and windy pretty much sums up January and February, but we soldiered on and enjoyed every minute of it. Our ranks have swelled with new members with an average of 10 players each week. With time and practice, double ringers are becoming a common occurrence and stiff competition makes playing all the more enjoyable. Since this month is the last month of the quarter, it's time to plan our first tournament for 2022. Winners, along with photos, will be included in our April issue of the Breeze. Good luck gentlemen! If any of this sounds interesting and fun to you, we meet at The Summit every Wednesday at 9 am. We will hold a spot for you. Our contacts are Ron Erickson at (951) 846-3288, rejlerickson@ sbcglobal.net or Gary Christie at (951) 845-0520, goldtoy@earthlink. net. ~ Ron Erikson Shuffleboard Horseshoe Club The new courts are finally complete but not yet playable Players enjoy the old courts at The Lodge
