28 | OHCC LIVING | MARCH 2022 | Finally – spring! After a very long "season of winter", the nights are warmer, the days are more predictable, and we're moving forward again! Our free "class" this month is on the third Thurs., March 17 (wear your green) at 9:30 am in the Sewing Room. This class is a special one, as it will be our only tutorial class this year for making the very important holiday stockings for Camp Pendleton and San Pasqual Academy. The kits are ready-everything you need is included – free. It is a simple project that brings great joy to many and is only limited by your imagination! You can sign up for this class at our meeting March 3 or contact our members at the numbers below to make a reservation. For our members, we have five Brother sewing machines, a Serger, and an amazing array of knitting, crocheting, and sewing supplies to make your projects easier; all located in the sewing room. If you are not a member, our dues are $7 per year, and we'd love to have you! The Kneedlers and Hookers gather on Tuesdays from 3:15 to 4:30 pm, where you can pick up a new skill, share, or visit. Also, on Tuesday evenings (6 to 8 pm) and Fridays (12 to 3 pm) several quilters, crocheters and sewers will get together for "Sew & Chats." Both of these gatherings are loosely structured and tend to keep us in touch… there's always something to chat about! If you are interested in participating in our activities and are not sure who to reach out to for further information, please call Chris Sanderson (858) 442-1834, or MaryLu Belisle (952) 454-1931 for more information. Also, please visit our website, lovingly updated by Terri Eckhardt, http://ohccsewing.wixsite.com/ohccsewing. Sewing, Etc. Lots and lots of stockings and an overflow stocking rack Woodchucks What is the difference between a Groundhog and a Woodchuck? There is no difference. In fact, the terms Woodchuck and Groundhog are interchangeable. So, in Ocean Hills Country Club, we call that certain day in February… Woodchuck Day! On this year's Woodchuck Day, there was much excitement at the woodshop. Our own "Punxsutawney" Woodchuck Mitchell came out of his burrow with a big smile. His early efforts to build toys bode well for the 2022 toy drive. For our new neighbors in OHCC, the Woodchucks make toys, collect residents' gifted toys, and help raise funds for the children of the Camp Pendleton enlisted Marines. We hope that Woodchuck Mitchell's example will bring other members out of their winter homes to help make a difference for "those who so bravely serve us." To join in the fun, just bring your imagination to the woodshop. We have many books on toy building. Or Google "wooden toy," where you will discover many design ideas. Your design, along with donated wood, toy parts, and our shop's extensive tool collection, can help with your creative gifts. Thank you to all our new and returning members. We are here to help. ~ The Woodchucks, makers of fine sawdust!
