Village Vets
I would like to thank Greg Coffey who
had a great presentation for us on the Space
Force. It was quite interesting and enjoyed
by our members and guests at our January
Village Vets General Meeting. Unfortunately,
our scheduled speaker was not able to make
our meeting and hopefully we can have him
at a future time. We plan on having a good
year of speakers and activities and of course,
continuing to support active-duty military at
Camp Pendleton, whenever we can.
For our next general membership
meeting on March 24 at 3 pm in Abravenal
Hall, we are planning to have a speaker from
the nearby San Diego station to talk about
what the Coast Guard does to maintain law
and order on the seas in and around our
area. I know the speaker will present some
facts and interesting information to us.
We will not have a general meeting in April but are planning a
special event for our May meeting on Sat., May 21 in the Lanai; there
will be more details on it soon.
With cost imperiling a $282 billion bill that would help those
exposed to burn pits, as well as Vietnam
Veterans with hypertension, two senators are
proposing a much less expensive compromise
that could still help more than 1 million older
Veterans get Department of Veterans Affairs
health care.
Committee Chairman Sen. Jon Tester,
D-Mont., and Kansas Sen. Jerry Moran, the
committee's ranking Republican, introduced
a bill Tuesday that would create a one-year
enrollment period for VA medical care for post-
9/11 combat Veterans who served after 1998
and never enrolled. It would also extend the
enrollment period for all formerly deployed
post-9/11 combat vets from five years to 10.
