20 | OHCC LIVING | MARCH 2022 | As February blows by, we will certainly welcome spring and the warmer months. Plans are coming together for the "Spring Carnival," in the overflow parking lot. The event will be on Sat., April 16 from 10 am to 2 pm, a little longer in duration because of the set up of the rides and the animals we plan to have on site. It has always been held the day before Easter Sunday. This is always a popular event for children of all ages. If there was some way we could support the numbers and manage the age-specific egg hunts, we would have done so. There's nothing sweeter than adorable children running through the grass with their baskets. With the date of completion of the golf course front 9 still not yet determined, we had to move forward. Hip-Hop the Bunny will be here for pictures; you can count on that! Check out the flyer below for more details. The Dog Park continues to be an active place for owners and their pets. It opens at 10 am and closes at dusk. The area is sanitized at least twice a week. Owners are encouraged to bring their own pet bowls; hoses are provided for clean-up of the pet waste and refilling the bowls. We refill the doggie bags, empty the receptacles, and order approximately 48,000 pet waste bags per year for the eight waste stations along the Leisure Village Route. Recently, a policy regarding aggressive dogs has been requested by members. The rule states, "Dogs that demonstrate aggressive behavior and/or bark excessively must be removed immediately." The Community Services Committee will review this in their next monthly meeting. As the warmer weather comes and daylight saving begins, the Dog Park becomes quite a gathering place for members and their furry friends. One asks the question: Who has more fun… the people or the pets? Some of the projects on the books for the Clubhouse include renovation of the stage and Ballroom floors, recovering the billiards tables in the Billiards Room, and deciding what plants belong in the blue pots located around the Clubhouse perimeter. There is always something to be done and resident volunteers have been involved in the process to see these to completion. The Lanai Canopy will be erected Mon., May 2. The Master Board moved the date up after requests from many clubs. The canopy will be taken down on Oct. 15. This provides for another venue for larger gatherings that are often requested during the summer months. With the limit of 132 guests "under the big top," per the Fire Department's restriction, the parties will flow out onto the pool deck areas. We will find creative ways to accommodate the numbers and work towards successful event outcomes. As the mask mandates ease up, here's to getting this Clubhouse and our lives back to operating at their fullest potential. As we celebrate St. Patrick's Day on March 17, an Irish toast is in order and so we decree: "There are good ships, and there are wood ships, the ships that sail the sea, but the best ships are friendships and may they always be. The Clubhouse is where it happens for all of OHCC!" Recreation News By Chris Bessey, Recreation Director
