Art Lovers Just when we thought that we were easing out of all the pandemic restrictions we were hit with an upsurge of the Omicron variant and many of our activities were curtailed or postponed for two months. March is here and we eagerly anticipate our first event, a car trip to the Oceanside Museum of Art on Thurs., March 17. Of special interest is their Fifth Biennial Artist Alliance Exhibition celebrating Southern California artists. This exhibition represents only a small cross- section of their remarkable artist members. Only 61 artworks were selected from nearly 900 entries by juror Alessandra Moctezuma, Professor of Art and Gallery Director at San Diego Mesa College. Jurying the artworks to be included in this year's exhibition was a challenge. Juror Moctezuma adds that, "As a curator and professor of art, I really enjoyed seeing the variety of approaches, unique concepts, media manipulation, and attention to craftsmanship. The past eighteen months have been a time of uncertainty and isolation. Personally, nature has been a healthy escape, so I included pieces — both figurative and abstract — that represent that much needed connection to the beauty around us." We are looking forward to viewing this exceptional exhibition. Details on this trip will be emailed to our members and will be available on our website, www. ohccartlovers.wixsite.com/art-lovers. If you hurry you may be able to purchase tickets for the exciting show, "Beyond Van Gogh: An Immersive Experience" at the Del Mar Fairgrounds until March 6, 2022. Those who have seen it rave about this stunning journey into the world of Van Gogh. Over 300 of the artist's works are projected upon the walls, floors, and ceilings giving one the feeling of just having stepped into a Van Gogh painting. The scenes move from flowers to landscapes to portraits and cafés with a stirring musical accompaniment. It takes about an hour or more to walk through the exhibit. There is very little seating. Walkers, canes, wheelchairs, and scooters are permitted but not provided. Timed ticket entry every 15 minutes, 11 am to 10 pm Mondays- Thursdays. 11 am to 11 pm Fridays. 10 am to 11 pm Saturdays. 10 am to 10 pm Sundays. Final entry one hour before close. Runs through March 6. Please go to www.vangoghsandiego.com for more information.
