Join us for the discussion of the book The Personal Librarian by Marie
Benedict in the Clubhouse on the second Wednesday of the month at
10:30 am.
Here is a brief synopsis: In her 20s, Belle da Costa Greene is hired by J. P.
Morgan to curate his collection of rare manuscripts, books and art work
for his newly built Pierpont Morgan Library. Belle becomes a fixture in
New York City society and one of the most powerful people in the art
and book world, known for impeccable taste and shrewd negotiating
for critical works as she helps create a world class collection. But, Belle
has a secret, one she must protect at all costs. She was not born Belle da
Costa Greene, but Belle Marion Greener. She is the daughter of Richard
Greener, the first black graduate of Harvard and a well-known advocate
for equality. Belle's complexion is not dark because of her Portuguese
heritage, but because she is African American!

Save the date! Saturday, July 2, will be the Kennel Club's 4th Annual Patriotic Pups Parade. Finally, after respecting the lockdown
and the spread of the variants in COVID, we are cautiously planning our first event since June 2019.
The Kennel Club is six years old, and we are excited about welcoming the many new and beautiful dogs that have joined us in
our community.
If you are interested in being involved in the Kennel Club, either serving on the Board or as an active member, please send your
name and info to vac@vaconant.com.
