On Jan. 15, 15 Colony residents volunteered their time and effort to clean up the Golf Course finger #1, which is on the left side of Avenida Florita after you enter the Jackson gate. It was a cool day which made pulling weeds, raking, trimming, sweeping, picking up and bagging debris a lot easier. The clean-up day flew by, and we were done around noon. Our cleanup days are once a month during the winter and spring seasons. The cleanup will always be on the third Saturday. Should we get rain that day, the cleanup will be moved to the following Saturday. The March cleanup will be Saturday, March 19 starting at 7 am. Volunteers can start whenever it is convenient for them. They can work as much or as little as they have time and are able. We don't want anyone to work too hard or get hurt. With more volunteers, it will be easier on everyone. I found it was a rewarding way to give back to our community, improve the surrounding landscape and get some exercise. If you can't participate but want to help, large, black trash bag donations are welcomed. If you are interested in learning more, contact me at janepayne3@verizon.net or (909) 455-2253. Sending a big THANK YOU to our volunteers, which included Mike and Nancy Adam, Jeff Agajanian, Iris Balmelli, Rebecca and Laurent Carrer, Michael Frey, MaryPat Gates, Alvaretta "Alvie" Kracik, Cindy McCall, Jim McElhattan, Judy Moore, Jane Payne, Tim Sublett and Phyllis Way. Thank you's also go out to Lynn Smith for bringing donuts, and to Carolyn E., Bill and Ina Macafee for donating trash bags. Everyone's contribution is greatly appreciated! VOLUNTEER CLEANUP DAYS
