60 60 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2022 | | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | APRIL 2022 | The members of the Sun Lakes Tennis Club are fortunate to have Alan Lott (Fire Captain and Medic – Retired) as an active member. Alan participates in USTA competition and often takes part in practice rounds with his fellow team members. At our first Quarterly Meeting of the year, by request of the Tennis Club Executive Committee, Alan shared instructions on how best to use 9-1-1, and the steps for the right use of our Zoll AED Plus defibrillators, four of which are located on the Sun Lakes property. There were at least two major take-aways from Alan's presentation. First, Alan recommended the use of a land line when available when calling 9-1-1. Land lines are more direct, time efficient, and informative to authorities. In addition, according to Alan, do not hang up your phone during the unfolding of the crisis. Second, a Zoll AED Plus device is located in the hallway of the South Clubhouse. It is, therefore, readily available in case of a crisis in or near the South Clubhouse. The steps to using any one of Sun Lakes' four Zoll AED devices can be studied by searching the internet with the address: YouTube/Zoll AED Plus–Full Automated AEDs. We thank Alan for helping us to be better informed about the prospect of giving vital life-saving assistance to one another. Finally, Phil Hazelton shares a Tennis Tip for the month of April to do with tennis health. According to Phil, as we age, the wear and tear throughout the years take their toll. We are not 20 anymore. So, those of us still able to play tennis need to adjust our lifestyles. 1. Our bodies need water. Dehydration is a cause for major health issues. Drink plenty of water before and after play. 2. Stretching is a must before and after play. Pay attention to the Achilles tendon. 3. Warm up slowly; use the short court (service box) area to warm up your body. 4. Be aware of the heat. If you stop sweating, that's a sign of being dehydrated. Drink small sips of water at a time. 5. If you have not played for a long time, start a slow, short workout 20-30 mins until you feel better about being in shape. 6. And the most important tip, if you feel pain in one or more of your muscles, anywhere, you have pulled something. Pain is the body's way of telling us to stop and fix the hurting area. 7. Wear a hat or head covering on hot days. Sunscreen, as well. Phil concludes with his familiar advice, "Keep your eye on the ball and the fun in your game."
