Joan Rae Silvestri was born on March 1, 1935 in Pennsylvania and passed away on February 10, 2022 just shy of her 87th birthday. She attended Upper Perkiomen High School and graduated in 1954. Joan married Michael Silvestri in 1955 and they moved to Bell, California joining other relatives who had relocated there. They had two sons and shared many happy times with lots of family gatherings. Several years later, Joan and Mike moved to Cerritos where she became President of the PTA for the ABC Unified School District. After that, they moved to Whittier, and she was hired as Executive Secretary for Greer Hydraulics. She also worked for TRW and Zemarc Corporation. In 1994, Joan and Mike moved to Sun Lakes and enjoyed life with new friends. They loved taking cruises and were especially fond of Hawaii. After her husband passed away, Joan continued to explore the United States, seeing Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon, Niagara Falls, Florida and Alaska. At Sun Lakes, she became a member of a number of clubs including the Friendship Club, the Garden Club, the Paisano's Club, and Social Singles. She was great at bocce ball, and her team was very proud to win a championship. She also had artistic talents, creating beautiful oil paintings and handcrafting special holiday decorations for her family. Her sons and daughter in law will especially miss the thoughtful, loving cards she sent to them on every important occasion. Joan always had a cheerful, positive attitude, lifting the spirits of everyone around her. Joan is survived by her son Michael, her son David and his wife Cindy, her brother Howard and his wife Pat, and her good friend Joe Corbett. Florence Silvestri (Shilts) moved to heaven January 27, 2022. She relocated from Chicago to Sun Lakes over 30 years ago with her husband, Ray Silvestri who passed away 10 years ago. She had worked for United Airlines and was a member of the retirement group called Desert Sunbirds. She is survived by her children Ray Jr., Greg, Susan and Tony; and her grandchildren Jordan, Karissa, Samantha, Megan, Jacob, Summer, TJ, Dan, and Dave. She married Bob Shilts a little over three years ago and they enjoyed new adventures together. She was involved in Oak Valley Community Church in Calimesa. Her faith was always her number one. She is in the episode called "Mom's Miracle." Robert (Bob) C. Powell, age 92, of Banning, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday, January 10, 2022. Born in Springfield, IL and raised in Gardena, CA; he was the son of the late Norman and Frances Powell, and brother of the late Richard (Dick) Powell. He was the widower of Jerry Powell, who died in 2000, and Rosemary Hlavin, who died in 2017. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, in which he participated in several major battles. He was one of the "Chosin Few" who survived the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir, and was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries incurred in that battle. After his service, he went on to pursue his dream of a career in law enforcement. He was a Deputy, and later a detective, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff 's Department for a total of 21 years, during which he earned several commendations for meritorious service. He then enjoyed a well-deserved, long retirement playing golf and travelling the country. He is survived by his three daughters from his first wife, Patricia: Linda Holaday (Jeff ) of Davis, CA, Patti Martin (Dean) of Davis, CA, and Kathy Rasmussen (Gerald Braden) of Modesto, CA, along with six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; he was predeceased by one great- grandchild. He is also survived by a stepdaughter from Jerry: Durenda Lauzon, along with six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; as well as three stepchildren from Rosemary: Linda Embleton, Kristen Stilley (Russ), and John Hampton (Becky), along with several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
