All six of the Ocean Hills Country Club pool tables have been recovered. This is a complex and difficult process when it is done correctly. Billiards Club Vice President Cal Roe documented the process. Residents will find the tables are more level than ever before. The rail assembly was lifted off the table and the old Simonis cloth removed. South Cali Billiards reported the old fabric was installed too loosely and the fabric weave was not correctly aligned with the edges of the tables. This was a talented crew who took pride in their work. Two lasers were used to position the foot spot. The completed rail assembly was replaced. The selvage edge was stretched, bonded, and stapled so that the fabric weave was uniform. Then, from the opposite side, the fabric was stretched as tight as a man could pull, then wrapped around the slab edge with a uniform weave pattern, and stapled. The pockets were formed, and the excess fabric trimmed. The slate bed was cleaned with a dampened cloth and the new Simonis fabric spread out with the selvage edge aligned with one edge of the slab. Then the fabric was folded back onto the table and contact adhesive was applied to the back side of the fabric and the edge of the slab. The slate table was leveled using six precision levels, wooden wedges along the edge, and skillful use of the hammer. The center slab was first. A single sheet of paper under one of the table legs made the final adjustment. Then the end slabs were adjusted. Meanwhile, the slate slabs were smoothed and then bonded together with super glue. The remaining gap and fastener holes were filled with paraffin wax. After the wax was hard, the excess wax was scraped off, resulting in a super smooth surface.
