26 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | APRIL 2022 | This month in the Q, April's issue of the Herald is extra special for us! Our very own Diane Best is featured in the Creative Spotlight so grab your favorite beverage of choice and take some time to get to know this special lady. Highlighting her journey to becoming our Quilting Inspiration, Diane's knowledge of all-things-textile, coupled with her passion for creativity, truly blesses our club. As the creator and Sponsor of Seasons Quilters, Diane brings home to Four Seasons the very heartbeat of what's possible with a simple spool of thread, a colorful piece of fabric, and a well-positioned needle. Newly formed in September 2021, Seasons Quilters promises a bright and inspirational future of fun, creative projects under the expert tutelage of such a Quilting Diva! Thank you, Diane. Seasons Quilters meets every first and third Thursday in the Arts & Craft Room from 12 noon to 4 pm. Sewing together twice a month has become time we all look forward to, and March was no exception. Sharing is at the center of our club, and as we learn a thing or two from each other, our confidence to try new techniques grows into beautiful new creations. As a diverse group, from beginners to seasoned quilters, no two meetings are ever the same, igniting within each of us the shared passion for what's possible. The beautiful quilts pictured on the following page were recently on display at our local Valley Quilters Guild Show, held in February at Valley-Wide Regional Park. The Guild meets every fourth Tuesday morning in Seven Hills Clubhouse and many of our Seasons Quilters Club members are also active Guild Members. For more information about quilting, activities, fun projects and forming forever friendships through this wonderful hobby of quilting, stop by the Arts & Crafts Room and see what's sewing! We would love to meet you. All Four Seasons residents are welcome to meetings and excursions. For more information, please contact Diane Best at (951) 816-0449, dianequilts@verizon.net or Sharon Deuber at (760) 500- 0077, YouDeserveIt@twc.com. Howdy! I hope this sounds familiar to you as it's my usual salutation to all. I can't recall ever being asked to write about myself. I think it's hard enough to write a resumé, but here goes. My roots are in Ohio but I am a California girl. I realized early on that textiles would be a part of my life. Fabrics were my destiny. I can thank my mother for that. Learning to sew early helped. Textiles is a huge subject and I had a difficult time sorting it out. Although I didn't realize it, I was trying to find the right fit. I tried knitting, crochet, dyeing, tailoring, embroidery, and on and on until I found the sewing machine. Eureka! That was it. By that time I had two beautiful little boys. My husband worked rotation shifts so he and I worked out a plan where I could attend classes, the boys could go to school and he would be working. Believe me, it wasn't easy. Adult school was the answer. The sewing machine was a miracle. There was a beautiful lady who taught everything and more about what a machine could do. She created with it, and it brightened my life. After she was gone, I took her place. Later, I opened a store teaching her methods and expanded into fabrics and threads. I had a demonstration booth at the L.A. County Fair Home Arts Building and taught skills far and wide. I was chosen to judge at the Fair and also at the California State Fair. What a trip! Later, I got a job at Disneyland which ended up being my second home for 11 years until I retired; I love it and still do. Now I'm a total quilter. I have too many sewing machines and have a Gammill Long Arm machine dedicated to quilting. I lost my DSH (Dear Sweet Husband) recently so I'm trying to make another life. That's where the Seasons Quilters come in. We're open to all Four Seasons residents so come on down. We would be happy to have you join us. Just call me Diane.
