COMMITTEE NEWS | THE COLONY NEWS | APRIL 2022 | 15 WOW… does your Colony Communications Studio have a new look! Thanks to the efforts of the Board of Directors, we have been able to replace our aging, 24-inch stamp-sized monitors with three 55-inch monitors as well as new desks and chairs. This will significantly increase our functionality for recording events in the Auditorium, such as board meetings and town halls, and our ability to provide new work areas for our editors. We plan to share this new look with Colony residents at a wine and cheese open house in the spring, with tours of the studio facility. We are also hoping that each of you has taken advantage of the Communication survey published in last month's newsletter as well as requested on eblasts. The results of this survey will help us greatly determine the best method of communicating with the residents of our community. We continue to urge you to participate in our Colony Daze project. It's effortless to just grab your camera or cell phone and take a photo or video of something you find exciting about The Colony. It may be a club meeting, rehearsal, social event or an entertainment project, then just submit the resulting images to kara. hardy@associa.us for consideration for our annual Colony Daze documentary. As always, we are attempting to locate new Communication community volunteers. This is an exciting position, and even though you may not have had any experience in video recording in the past, we are happy to train you and extend to you the ability to become an operator or participant in our video productions. We are getting very close to beginning video recording of our founding residents and those of you who have lived in The Colony for a significant number of years. Our objective is to record and archive your memories for future generations. Take a photo or video of your favorite Colony activites or events and enter them for a prize in two categories: Individual and Committee/Clubs. Media may be submitted between now and Dec. 31, 2022. Please send your submission to kara.hardy@associa.us. The Communications Committee will then combine these photos and videos into a finished documentary which will be available for new resident orientation, marketing, and general presentations. Prizes will be awarded for the media submissions best representation of life in an active senior community. See Kara in the Activities Office if you need assistance transferring your media files. COMMUNICATIONS By Greg Hill COLONY DAZE A year in the life of an active senior community Many of our newer residents have asked "What's going on in the Lounge and/or Auditorium?" They may not be aware of one of the wonderful services the Sunshine Committee offers. When a resident has a death in the family, the family can elect to have a memorial service here. It could be for a spouse, child or parent. There is no cost to the resident for this, and the Sunshine Committee supplies everything (except the food) from our annual bake sale income and donations to the Committee. This service is provided by dedicated volunteers who sign up to do setup, food serving or clean up. A team leader works with the family to coordinate the date, offer guidance for ordering food and arrange details. As help is needed, volunteers step forward. All the family needs to do is contact Kara Hardy in the Activities Office, Lynda Shatsky (408-313-4496) or me. Volunteers are currently needed. If this is something you might like to help with, get in touch with one of us. More helping hands for this special activity are welcome. SUNSHINE COMMITTEE By Sharon Boll, 951-600-2579
