32 | THE COLONY NEWS | APRIL 2022 | CLUB NEWS Men's Golf It was a Valentine's Day tournament and our first 'away' tournament of 2022. Organized by our Tournament Director, Mike Basel, it was held in conjunction with the Good Old Boys, a Friday group of golfers. The location was the Welk Resort in Escondido, an executive-style course but with contoured and very difficult to read greens. It was a very pleasant day for golf and was very well attended, with some 28 players competing in the 'scramble' format team event. Congratulations to the winning team of Mike Basel, Joe Roux, Don Brown, and Mallie Donohoe. We hope to have two or three more of these popular 'away' tournaments this year to be held on different golf courses in the local area. And remember to take advantage of the CMGC low net tournaments that allow you to post a score and update your handicap. By Sam Currie, 461-0801 Mallie Donohoe Mike Basel Joe Roux Don Brown As a bowling league that has been together for years and years, I have had the privilege of serving as President for two seasons now, and I really enjoy doing our monthly dinners. Last month we had a contest where everyone had to guess the number of beans in the bowl. The four closest to the actual count of the beans (7,200) were Ann Sarazin, Virginia Valasco, Bonnie Graham and Lynn Ennes (notice all were women), and each winner got a bottle of champagne. As for our bowling league, we are considering participating in a Summer League, so please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested (hank@blwilcox.com). I asked already in March, but just in case you missed it, the Summer League would run from June to August. It is a short period of time, and all the rules would be the same as our current Winter League. Remember that our final awards dinner has been pushed to June 2. Any rule changes or suggestions would be appreciated. Please put them in writing only and send to me or Lynn. We are planning to have some sort of barbeque lunch in the patio area some time during the summer, so be sure to read your emails for upcoming news. I apologize for Heinz Holl's name being misspelled in the March magazine; it was not how it was submitted. (The editor also apologizes for misspelling Heinz Holl's name).
