34 | THE COLONY NEWS | APRIL 2022 | CLUB NEWS It was a pretty quiet March for Paddle Tennis as the monthly tournament was rained out on March 4. But hosts Ellen Micheli and Harriet Henderson saved the morning by moving their tournament feast indoors and serving breakfast to players and fans alike. Tennis at The Colony is exploding! John Knitter continues to offer lessons, coaches the Ladies USTA 3.0 League Team and has organized a doubles ladder that is bringing a lot of players to the courts. The third Saturday of each month has been designated as Ladder Challenge Saturday. From 9 am to noon, John sets up matches among the ladder participants. Anyone can join the ladder at any time. Call John at 951-805-2456 to get you and your partner on the ladder. Captain Jeanne Bender's USTA Ladies 3.0 League Team is getting better and better. Their March 6 match at Andulka Park in Riverside was decided by two close third set tiebreakers. Most importantly, they are having a lot of fun playing the matches and socializing with their opponents afterwards. The Ladies Racquet Luncheon was held on March 9, and hosted by Kris Smith, Tammy Holmes and Shirley Duffy. They had a St. Patrick's Day theme with great food and conversation. The monthly Racquet Club dinner on March 12 was hosted by Harriet Henderson, Loretta Woolner and Joanie Sailor. In honor of St. Patrick's Day, we had the traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner. Racquet Club By Tom McClure, 303-7838 Our resident tennis pro and coach, John Knitter, would like to know if anyone is interested in learning to play or just wanting to brush up on your game, to contact him at 951-805-2456 and set up a time that would work for you. The cost is free (can't beat that!) and if you don't own a racquet, there are tennis racquets you may use in the box by the tennis courts. Balls are always supplied. A new tennis program at The Colony has begun. We have quite a few doubles teams starting to challenge each other. Each team picks a team to challenge that is above your ladder. If you win the match, you move up the ladder. On the third Saturday of each month, doubles teams will get together to face off against each other in an attempt to move up the ranking on the tennis ladder. If you would like to sign up or get more information regarding the ladder challenge, please call John Knitter at 951-805-2456. Tennis Lessons Tennis Doubles Challenge Ladder Thursday Bocce is picking up. If you have nothing else going on, come on down and join in the fun and socialize. Everyone gets a chance to play if they would like. It's every Thursday from 3 to 5 pm. Water is provided, and you are welcome to bring your snacks and choice of beverage if you would like. Ping Pong is back and growing. We play on Wednesdays and Fridays from 4 to 6 pm in the Annex. It's fun, it's social and keeps you on your toes. It also helps with hand and eye coordination.
