32 | OHCC LIVING | MAY 2022 | Ah, spring! The time when all hearts turn to thoughts of crafting! (At least mine do…) You know how you get dressed in the morning – clean shirt – and then have breakfast, only to have your toast dribble on your fresh new outfit? Our class this month will take care of that for you! On Thurs., May 19 at 9:30 am we will be making "adult clothing protectors" in our Sewing Room at the Clubhouse. A simple solution for an aggravating problem! We will have a sign-up sheet and more information regarding supplies needed, etc. at our monthly meeting on Thurs., May 5 in the Lamia Room, adjacent to the Sewing Room. The meeting gets going at 9:30 am and only lasts an hour. Come and join us! As always, the Kneedlers and Hookers gather on Tuesdays from 3:15 to 4:30 pm, where you can pick up a new skill, share, or visit. Also, on Tuesday evenings (6 to 8 pm) and Fridays (12 to 3 pm) several quilters, crocheters and sewers get together for "Sew & Chats." Both of these gatherings are loosely structured and tend to keep us in touch… there's always something to laugh about! If you are interested in participating in our activities and are not sure who to reach out to for further information, please call Chris Sanderson at (858) 442-1834, or MaryLu Belisle at (952) 454-1931 for more information. Also, please visit our website, lovingly updated by Terri Eckhardt, http://ohccsewing.wixsite.com/ohccsewing. Sewing, Etc. Woodchucks Two Woodchucks have been busily updating our website. Check out the new-and-improved OHCC Woodchuck website. Our thanks to Mike Thornton and Betsy Murphy for their considerable efforts! In the updating process, we asked some of our members to send photos of personal projects that we might share. Their responses remind us of the talent that many members bring to our woodshop. We will use the new photo entries to salute our skilled makers of sawdust. "Murf " Haugen and his wife Patty have been Woodchucks for years. They are responsible for many of the shop upgrades and have built 100s of toys for the kids of Camp Pendleton. Whenever we have an issue with equipment, we can count on "Murf " to find a solution. "Murf " and Patty, along with Patty Coffey, have long been committed to the Woodchuck recycling of aluminum cans and plastic bottles. This activity helps the environment and raises money for our holiday toy drive. The photos shown are a reflection of both his skill and creative mind. The wooden Da Vinci Code Cryptex puzzle is simply amazing. The details of the wooden jeep motor will make many of us feel woefully inadequate about our woodworking skills! The colorful U.S. map puzzle is an excellent example of his skills as a Master Toy Builder. Our thanks to "Murf " and Patty for their years of sharing the joys of being a Woodchuck.
