24 | OHCC LIVING | MAY 2022 | The Clubhouse continues to see an uptick in the daily activity. We currently have over 25 programs scheduled on the Lanai, after the May 2 installation of the canopy by Abbey Rents. The Fire Department will visit the site to approve the permit and review the mock set-up we are to have in place. With tables and chairs, we can sit approximately 132 attendees and 199 attendees using theater/auditorium seating. This month we will have our Residents vs. Staff Annual Water Volleyball Tournament. Last year, the staff was able to have our first overwhelming victory. Our heads were in the clouds for days, most of us had not been in a pool since the last defeat, and the elation was more than any of us could even process. All kidding aside, come join us on Fri., May 27 from 2 to 4 pm for an entertaining afternoon at the pool. Note: On Mon., May 30, Water Volleyball will begin playing from 3 to 5 pm, then, revert back to the 2 to 4 pm beginning Sept. 7. Our thanks to all of the volunteers helping to make the Spring Carnival event a huge success. CPS stepped in to assist with traffic and SERT volunteers provided help to man the booths and traffic flow. It was a day long in the making, certainly, a welcomed sight to see all the happy, little faces loving the activities, hugging the bunny, and witnessing the joy of families having fun together. "Relax and Revitalize," a class starts Tues., May 10, for three sessions at $30, with resident Michele Hebert instructing. Participants will experience a variety of exercises to calm the nervous system and enhance your vitality: meditation, breathing, yoga nidra (for sleep), gratitude, minding the mind and more. Participants will receive in-class instruction, along with take-home materials to assure their continual progress. Sign-ups at the Front Desk, limited to 15 participants only. Annual 2022 Golf Bag Tags are now available at the Clubhouse, at no cost to the membership. The golf course is still closed but we wanted to pre-empt a mad rush on opening day. Residents are required to display an annual tag on their golf bag. The color of the tag this year is Dayglo Green, let us hope the anticipated new turf will come in with the same boldness of color. Health and Safety Fair 2022 will be Sat., June 4 from 9 am to 1 pm, working in partnership with the SERT Club. Food trucks, lectures, vendors, and services will be offered. Flyer and program details to follow. A Recreation Department "Fourth of July" Dinner and Dance Party is in the works and tickets will be offered in the weeks ahead, so plan for it. The event takes place on the Lanai, with seating around the pool. We have a costume contest every year, great entertainment, and lots of good food, usually with an "Americana" theme. Saving the best for last, wishing you a Happy Mother's Day to all! Go out and enjoy your day, swim, and have a picnic on the Palm Court. As the comedian Phillis Diller once said, "I want my children to have all the things I could not afford, then, I want to move in with them." Keep laughing, it's good for the soul!
