Yiddish Culture Club
YCC Movie Night is May 11 at 7 pm in the Main Clubhouse.
Yom Hashoah, The Day of Remembrance, was on April 27 and is a
day set aside for the world to remember the Holocaust.
Recently an Orange County neighbor of ours, Mel Mermelstein,
passed away at the age of 95. The YCC is honored to present a studio-
produced legal thriller genre film with world acclaimed actors about
this incredible holocaust survivor. The movie recounts the riveting
story of how Mermelstein relentlessly pursued the truth about the
Holocaust in a Los Angeles courtroom.
Shockingly, in 1980, The Institute for Historical Review (IHR)
offered a $50,000 reward to anyone who could prove that Jews were
gassed at Auschwitz. Mr. Mermelstein wrote a letter to the editors of
the LA Times, the Jerusalem Post and other news sources with that
proof. The IHR refused to pay the reward stating that the notarized
account was not sufficient proof. The movie is about the turmoil
during the next years to this middle aged family man.
This event is free to YCC members and $3 for guests. This local
hero's story should not be missed.
