8 | Four Seasons Hemet Herald | MAY 2022 | The ARC recently elected John Swindell to chair the committee. We would like to take this opportunity to introduce John to members of the community. John and his wife Janet moved to Four Seasons three years ago, upon retirement. John was in the bakery business for 34 years (must have been so many temptations!). Before the business, John served in the US Navy for four years and then graduated from San Diego State University in 1984 (Go Aztecs!). The "RV" that came with John is used often, and with enthusiasm. Eleven grand kids also keep life interesting. John is dedicated to helping our community stay safe, quiet and beautiful. As we move forward, we would like to thank John Curts for his many years of service on the ARC and especially his guidance in chairing the committee through many significant issues as the community matures. The committee is very pleased that John Curts will be continuing as a valued member. Thank you John Curts, thank you very much! Architectural Review Committee For your benefit during a medical emergency, make sure that you have filled out and printed your medical form and placed it on the top of your refrigerator for Emergency Medical Personnel when you call 911. The form is on our website at fscert.org/medical-info/. Note that the information that you entered is NOT stored but is only there to be printed to your printer. Another reminder because we are heading into spring now it's a good time to remember where your Four Seasons Disaster Response Duo and OK/Help Needed sign package is located. It should be in your window. When disaster strikes, and it will, we residents of Four Seasons should have the Disaster Response Duo signs to summon help if needed. 911 and professional first-responders will be overwhelmed and unavailable. We are on our own and must depend on CERT volunteers. The first member of this duo is a trusted next-door neighbor. This neighbor has a key to your house, or knows where you've hidden a key, for example, under a flowerpot in the back yard. This neighbor will check on you, and you must check on them when disaster strikes. The second member of the duo is your Four Seasons CERT Street Captain. For a better understanding of CERT, visit our website at https://fscert.org. The Street Captain will look for the "Help Needed" sign in your window. If you don't have the signs, get them from The Lodge attendant. Residents are encouraged to store the "OK/Help Needed" sign in the window most visible from the street. Do so PERMANENTLY with the blank green side displayed in the window. Eventually, the green will fade to white. Not to worry, we like white too. Otherwise, in a disaster, you're likely to forget where you stored it, and your trusted next-door neighbor won't know either. When disaster strikes and help is needed, you, a family member, or the neighbor must flip the sign to "Help Needed" and unlock the front door. If all is well and no help is needed or you have evacuated, set the "OK" sign facing out to indicate the Street Captain need not visit. Furthermore, if you're OK, you might canvass and check the neighborhood for friends and neighbors who display a blank or no sign. The Street Captain will skip homes with either no sign or the "OK" sign displayed so his or her time is spent helping those who need it. Furthermore, if you like some of your neighbors, encourage them to post their signs. More information is available at www.fscert. org, Our Mission: The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program is designed to increase individual and community preparedness and self-reliance in the event of man-made or natural disasters.
