14 | THE COLONY NEWS | MAY 2022 | COMMITTEE NEWS We are now well into spring, and it's a great time to take a good, objective look at our homes and yards. Look into replacing faded and worn flags, umbrellas and any artificial flowers. All these are required under 14.6 General Maintenance of Architectural Standards. Reminder: Artificial flowers and plants must be UV only. Better yet, replace with live flowers and plants. Flowers can be either perennials, which will come back each season, or annuals, which are fun to refresh each season for that lovely, bright and colorful look that adds so much to our properties. Take a look at your fences: are they leaning, in disrepair, or faded and in need of new paint? Please take care of them before they need to be replaced. Window screens: are they torn, old, faded? You can call a screen repair company and have them replaced or repaired for a relatively low cost. This will make your windows look fresh and updated for a nice home improvement. The ACC is about two-thirds of the way through our home inspections and hopes to be done by the end of this year. We will then start over, and inspections will be ongoing. Please be proactive and do your part in keeping your home looking nice and avoiding future, costly repairs. We have a beautiful community, let's all work to keep it that way. Thank you! ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL By Gloria Brosky & Diane Schultz ACCESS CONTROL & SAFETY The Access Control and Safety Committee is an advisory committee to the Colony Homeowners Association Board of Directors and the General Manager relating to all issues of community access and safety of residents and visitors. In the event of a major disaster, our committee will work hand-in-hand with the Emergency Preparedness Committee to assist in maintaining the integrity and safety of all Colony residents. Our function is to evaluate access control and general safety of The Colony and the effectiveness of Community Patrol. The Access Control Committee receives monthly reports and statistics from Community Patrol (Nordic Security). These reports include traffic enforcement, emergency responses and incident reports. By Bruce Hartwig, 696-5115 With summer coming, the Communications committee is contemplating changing our two regular monthly meetings to a single regular one on the second Tuesday of the month and using the fourth Tuesday as a particular time for subcommittee or special meetings, work sessions or training. At our most recent meeting, we were updated by our AV consultant, Jake Hendrickson, about the upcoming proposals for The Colony and Auditorium. Once again, we encourage everyone to please participate in our Colony Daze program! Awards will be given at the end of the year for the picture or video best expressing life in an active 55+ community. The committee continues to search for additional members to assist with our many assignments. It's an exciting volunteer opportunity. Even if you have no background in production, we are happy to train you in our various needs. Our Outreach to History project is ongoing, and very soon we expect to begin recording on camera longtime residents expressing their memories of early days in The Colony. If you know of someone who fits this category, please let us know! We also continue to look for early artifacts. COMMUNICATIONS By Greg Hill The monthly report from Community Patrol indicates the following activity and violations that Nordic Security responded to and/or assisted in keeping with the safety and welfare for the Association: Security statistics: • 23,031 Jackson gate entries • 10 Property/residence checks • 20 Stop sign violations • 30 Medical, fire and police incidents • 40 Various parking violations • 5 Trash can citations • 26 Garage Doors open • 65 Miscellaneous incidents
