34 | THE COLONY NEWS | MAY 2022 | CLUB NEWS Saturday, April 1, brought a beautifully cool, sunny day and the monthly Paddle Tennis Tournament. Hosted by Tom McClure (breakfast) and Pat Kight (the draw), paddle tennis players were out in force to compete. Due to some injuries, three substitute players were needed to complete the competition, but when the dust cleared, Darla Gonzales and Judy Brackin in the women's division and Herb Reynolds in the men's division were crowned the winners. The competition was strong and close on all the courts. A week later, 70 TCRC (The Colony Racquet Club) members gathered for the monthly dinner. Kiki Fritschi and Mary Ann Plummer hosted this dinner. The Auditorium and the tables were beautifully decorated, and the food was delicious. The winners of the tournament were congratulated. Entertainment was provided by our own Colony Ukulele Strummers. The Strummers took us back to a simpler time, beginning with Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue and ending with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Happy Trails to You. Thanks to Kiki and Mary Ann for a memorable evening. The next Paddle Tennis Tournament is on Friday, May 6, and will be hosted by Bruce and Colleen Ray. The May TCRC BBQ dinner will be on Sunday, May 22. Tammy Holmes' Colony USTA 6.0 Mixed Doubles team started their season Saurday, April 9, with a win over cross-town rival Murrieta Tennis Club. Well played! The Ladies Racquet Club luncheon was held on Wednesday, April 13, and was hosted by Judy Brackin and Ali Holland. As usual the food was great and everyone who attended had a good time. The next Ladies Luncheon will be on Wednesday., May 11. Racquet Club By Tom McClure, 303-7838 Our resident tennis pro and coach, John Knitter, would like you to know if anyone is interested in learning to play or just wanting to brush up on your game, to contact him at 951-805-2456 and set up a time that would work for you. The cost is free (can't beat that!) and if you don't own a racquet, there are tennis racquets you may use in the box by the tennis courts. Balls are always supplied. A new tennis program at The Colony has begun. We have quite a few doubles teams starting to challenge each other. Each team picks a team to challenge that is above your ladder. If you win the match, you move up the ladder. On the third Saturday of each month, doubles teams will get together to face off against each other in an attempt to move up the ranking on the tennis ladder. If you would like to sign up or get more information regarding the ladder challenge, please call John Knitter at 951-805-2456.
