CLUB NEWS | THE COLONY NEWS | JUNE 2022 | 33 Jack & Jill Ladies Golf The Jack and Jill Tournament of April 14 was a monumental success! We gathered 16 foursomes, for 64 golfers to compete in the ever popular "Pick Your Own Foursome" competition. This is always a spirited event, and a hotly contested one, too. The weather cooperated nicely, with a cool weather start of 50° and a pleasant finish of 70°. The day could not have been better weather-wise. We also fielded and welcomed four new players to the Jack and Jill Family, who also made an impact on the winner's circle. Also welcomed back were several folks who have been away from the monthly tournament and banquet. When the tournament was over, the following posted winning positions for the contest: Winning Teams "A" Flight 1st: 46.047 Mark Tamayo, Vicky Cornille, Gary Wilson and Linda Peterson 2nd: 49.256 Charles Craven, Paula Thompson, Bruce and Ann Hartwig 3rd: 51.442 Joe Jaramillo, Barbara Crosdale, Malcolm Grant and Sherry Roberts "B" Flight 1st: 45.620 Terry Lundquist, Sue Jordan, Dan and Sheryl Beamish 2nd: 46.419 John McVeigh, Sharon Smith, Dennis Murphy and Daphne Iacobo 3rd: 46.806 Greg Griffes, Karen Wales, Ron Brown and Judy Lebovitz (3 newbies) Closest to the Pin #5 - Women, Daphne Iacobo – 20'3" / Men, Terry Lundquist – 12'8" #15 - Women, Sherry Roberts – 8'7" / Men, John Comeau – 3'11" #16 - Team #18 Steve and Rita Liguzinski, Joe Cwirka and Carole Alda (a newbie) By Dennis Murphy, 461-0457 By Judy Lebovitz, 461-0065 I hope everyone had a happy Mother's Day. Our May golf luncheon would have been our annual member/guest invitational, but due to the golf course conditions, we have postponed it and hopefully will have it in the near future. A few members invited guests to play, and afterwards we had a wonderful lunch and a beautiful and delicious Mother's Day cake which was donated by a member's sons. Our Awards lunch meeting will be held next month, when we will announce the winners and our club champion. We have a great group of ladies who play in either the 9-hole or 18-hole groups, so if you're interested in joining us, please call me or our membership chair, Peggy Clendenen, at 951-696-2169. Stay well, and we hope to see you on the links! DARWIN AWARD Bob Miller and Soky Hansen THE ISSUE: It seems Soky provided the golf cart used during the event and turned over the driving duties of safe driving to her partner, Bob. However, as the day progressed, Bob performed nothing less than a "Cart Jacking" on Hole 16 by leaving Soky stranded in the fairway as he drove on to complete his play on the hole. It is my understanding by the "snitch" that he did finally return to retrieve his playing partner. Thus, the DARWIN goes to Bob for the "Cart Jacking" and Soky for "snitching" on Bob, team play. Our next contest is set for Thursday, June 9, and will be our most popular venue, "A and B Format." As with all Jack and Jill events, you DO NOT have to be a member of either the Men's or Women's Golf Clubs to play, you just need to pick up your sticks and join us for the fun and friendly competition. See ya on the links!
