12 | THE COLONY NEWS | JUNE 2022 | COMMITTEE NEWS By Greg Hill The big news is that the renovation of the sound system in the Auditorium has begun. The Board recently approved the purchase of 12 new cardioid wireless microphones to support our actors. More improvements are to follow. With great regret, the Communications Committee accepted the resignation of former secretary and longtime member Joanne Perry. We wish to thank Joanne for her tireless service. She will be missed greatly by the committee. We are always looking for more residents to participate with us as we strive to fulfill our mission here at The Colony. At the last meeting, we voted to recommend to the HOA Board the change of our committee title from Communications to Multimedia & Communication to better reflect our mission. As summer approaches, we plan to provide a Communications Committee open house with wine and cheese in the Lounge and tours of the technology in the Communications Studio. We will soon be reaching the halfway point for our Colony Daze project. Once again, we encourage you to take a picture or a short video of activities that you appreciate so we can include them at the end of the year in our compilation of life in an active senior community. And as a reminder, the committee has voted to have only one regular meeting a month, on the second Tuesday, and to use the fourth Tuesday of the month to schedule subcommittee and special meetings. Website improvements are coming soon! COMMUNICATIONS The Library Committee is searching for a man. Just so you don't get the wrong idea, no, we are not a dating service. However, we are in need of a man who is willing to volunteer to pick up books from The Colony Library once a week and deliver them to the Friends of the Library Bookstore on Los Alamos. If you are interested in doing this, please give Shirley Leidenfrost a call at 951-696-4991. We would like to thank all of you who donate books with a copyright date of 2014 and newer, and also for your donations of magazines (two months or newer), picture puzzles and CD movies. We are experiencing a problem, however, with receiving large boxes of books that are old, soiled or generally in poor condition. In addition, we also receive items unrelated to the library's usefulness. Often, we need to dispose of these items. Prior to dropping off any large boxes of books, please contact Shirley at 951-696-4991. When borrowing books, magazines, etc., please remember to return them in a timely manner. Again, thank you for your donations. We wish you a summer filled with reading enjoyment. LIBRARY By Janet Baasch, 951-461-7232
