HOA NEWS | THE COLONY NEWS | JUNE 2022 | 3 From the Board of Directors By Walt Bowman, President It's OVER. There are often decisions that regardless of the issues, someone is impacted. Living in a homeowner's association, individual rights are often set aside while the greater good of a community (by consensus) is served. In cases like the recent ballot, which has been contentious, there are no winners or losers, only that the community has spoken. The ballot referendum of May 5 was heavily contested, and it will take some time for healing to take place (and healing WILL take place). Albeit we will all need to be considerate neighbor to neighbor. While the recent "YES" vote allows the Board and Golf Course Committee to begin negotiations with all parties, it does not mean that acquisition is imminent. There are still unresolved legal proceedings that need to be completed before the opportunity to acquire the golf course will be possible. The Board will move forward with all necessary steps to implement the will of the community expressed by the YES vote. While we ask you to be respectful of those who dissented, the majority has spoken. As stated above, acquisition is not imminent or assured, but the opportunity to forge a win-win for all residents is within our reach. The Board, with the assistance of the Golf Course Committee, will be involved in researching, investigating and interviewing potential professional golf management teams, establishing an LLC, and a myriad of other issues, such as the possibility of returning the golf course to its original configuration, restoration of the tee boxes, fairways and greens. The current overgrowth of trees, identifying areas of erosion and cleaning creek beds must be addressed, along with developing plans for the slopes and fingers to make the course more inviting for the greater golfing community and the overall beautification of our community as a whole. Again, all of this will only be possible if the Association is able to acquire the golf course. The vote may be OVER, but much planning lies ahead to be ready when and if the opportunity to acquire the golf course happens. Anyone can hinder, place obstacles and impediments in order to distract and confuse, or for the greater cause take a "we're in this together so let's roll up our sleeves" and create a country club-like experience that will contribute to the lifestyle many of us envisioned when we moved here. It's up to us. What is your desire to inspire in The Colony?
