44 | OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2022 | Racquet Club OHCC is a secret no more. Homes sell lightning fast as buyers jump when one comes on the market. Club membership has risen steadily since the start of the year (425 and counting in May), our newbies have mentioned countless times that the high quality, beautiful courts were a major attraction. And while there's a movement nationwide to add pickleball courts at parks and clubs, what we enjoy here at OHCC is unique, and particularly coveted for San Diego: all 8 courts are individually fenced. When we play, we aren't constantly interrupted by errant balls from the adjacent courts. Guests coming here to play rave about that feature! The announcement at the April Master Board meeting that the ancient lights at the Clubhouse and Pavilion courts would soon be replaced with energy-efficient LED lights was music to our ears. It was nearly five years ago when resident Nick Novellino first started talking up the cost-saving benefits of changing out the decades-old fixtures. Members Herb Livsey and Rob Schoonover worked closely with Greg Johnson and the board over time to research alternatives and get the project underway. Pickleball lessons for beginners start Sat., June 4; advance registration required. All residents are welcome — there is space for all who want to learn — and loaner paddles will be available for the class. We'll provide a quick lesson or refresher to get you going. Equipment is provided. Contact the Help Desk for details. Our May meeting was the first event "under the tent" this season. A highlight was the new website reveal, a clear success, as the well-over 100 club members in attendance viewed upcoming event information - including tournaments, social gatherings and classes, play times, plus education and skill building. Over 200 members to date have visited the website. The new platform is mobile-friendly, making it easy to use a cell phone to scroll and navigate pages. Just paste the new URL into your browser: https://www.ohccracquetclub.org/. So much happening with the Racquet Club!
