38 | OHCC LIVING | JUNE 2022 | Ocean Hills Anglers The Ocean Hills Anglers (OHA) planned its first offshore fishing trip of the year on May 10 - 12, a 1 ½ day trip. Unfortunately, the wind and seas did not cooperate, and the trip had to be canceled. The OHA is looking forward to our next offshore fishing trip, a two-day trip for Bluefin Tuna on June 12 - 14 on the Pacific Voyager out of Seaforth Landing in San Diego. If you are interested in joining us on this trip, contact the OHA Charter Master Ron Carso at ron.carso@ cox.net. You do not need to be a member to join us on this trip or any of our trips. If you would like to learn more about the Ocean Hills Anglers, we welcome you to attend our next meeting on June 7, at 6:30 pm on the Palm Court at the Clubhouse. If you recently moved to OHCC and want to learn more about the Ocean Hills Anglers, our Club has a website with current information on Club meetings, fishing trips and social events throughout the year. https://ohanglers.wixsite.com/ohanglers If you would like to join the Ocean Hills Anglers stop by the Clubhouse and ask for the OHA folder, fill out the new member information form along with a check for $10 and you will receive a welcome email within a few weeks. Sailing has been excellent. We have been graced with wonderful, albeit a bit chilly, weather for the start of the club's sailing season. On a recent sail, OHSC's Fleet Captain and one of the club's esteemed First Mates took us on a trip through the Bay and out to sea. Along the way, we encountered several big and beautiful vessels belonging to the United States Navy. Among them was an aircraft carrier, a destroyer and one of the new Littoral Class amphibious ships. The members aboard our Catalina 29 sailboat also witnessed numerous fighter jet take-offs from North Island, helicopters overhead and flyovers by radar planes. Clearly seeing our Navy at work gave all of us on board a real sense of safety. During our cruise, offshore, we had the opportunity to try out our sailing technique on various points of sail and all crew members who wanted had a chance to take the helm and help with trimming the sails through numerous tacks and jibes. Upon returning to the Bay, we sailed downwind and executed a not often used technique of running downwind bi-winged, i.e., the jib (foresail) out to one side and the mainsail out to the other. It was beautiful to see the sails trimmed this way with downtown San Diego off the bow. It was postcard perfect. At the conclusion of the sail, a crew member took the helm and successfully guided the Catalina back through the harbor, successfully steering it to the dock for tie-up. Following the sail, the Fleet Captain and several others adjourned to the Ketch restaurant on Shelter Island for a relaxing post sail dinner. Club members enjoyed six sailings in April with 10 scheduled for May and another 10 already scheduled for June. The club is also working hard to announce a non-sailing event, soon. Your club's Board of Directors members and officers and all the Captains and Mates are looking forward to seeing all of the club's members at the June 11 dinner dance – the first one of the year. A nautical Hawaiian theme has been chosen for the décor and the food. A big turnout is expected. See you there! Fair winds and following seas. Sailing Club
