Friends we will miss
Richard (Scotty) Rowatt was called home by our Lord Jesus Christ on March 14,
2022. He was preceded by the love of his life, his wife Helen of over 63 years, at the time of her passing
in April of 2017. Richard and Helen were both founding members of the Sun Lakes community. They
moved here in 1989 when Richard retired from ITT Cannon Electric after 39 years of service with the
company. He was born on August 24, 1927 in Hamilton, Scotland, to Gavin and Agnes Rowatt. He had
three other siblings John, Ruby, and Betty. As a young man after working for a time in a coal mine,
he decided that he would join the Royal Air force and work as an aircraft mechanic. After he left the
service, he and his older sister Betty decided to travel to America for a better life. Just before their
departure on the ship the QE 2, Betty got cold feet and stayed in Scotland so Richard was accompanied
by his pal Jack Dahl to America. As a loving father and provider, he ended up raising five boys in Santa
Ana, CA. He and Helen moved to Sun Lakes after he retired. With his passing, he leaves behind four
boys Alan (Dene'), Brian (Mona), Gavin (Marcy), and Todd (Mercedes). Sadly, his son Kevin (Sofie)
preceded him in death on February 10, 2021. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Timothy, Travis
(Samantha), Matthew (Kaytee), Christyn (Ryan), Shaun (Jennifer), Alyssa (Nate), Ashlee (Drew), Elisa
and Ian; and seven great-grandchildren Sebastian, Alexander, Lachlan, Sawyer, Madeline, Juniper,
and Henry. Richard Rowatt was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather,
friend, and he will be greatly missed. We will miss you, Dad.
