| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JUNE 2022 | 15 Sun Lakes Committee Reports Golf Advisory One of the important roles of the GAC is to make recommendations to the Master Board regarding the maintenance needs of our two golf courses. These needs tend to largely focus on trees, cart paths, and playing conditions. We have many mature trees that are overgrown and require trimming to reduce the threat of safety to golfers and damage to property. In addition, the roots from these trees produce an increase in buckling of cart paths and drainage issues due to blockage. When undertaking these maintenance projects, every attempt is made to improve the function and appearance of the course upon completion. For example, the drainage project on Championship Course hole #4 eliminated the problem with standing, stagnant water, finishing off the head walls with a stone veneer which greatly enhanced the appearance of this hole. Many of the recommendations the GAC makes to the Board are focused on prioritizing items to address potential safety issues. This ranges from warning signs and fencing along the ravine on Executive Course hole #6, to focusing cart path and stone edging replacement in areas posing the greatest trip and fall risks. When performing this maintenance work, an effort is made to enhance the aesthetics as well. The renovation of the sand traps included contouring the areas around the bunkers resulting in a contemporary look to the holes that have received many positive responses. The golf courses are Sun Lakes biggest asset and when making maintenance recommendations, the GAC hopes to add value for all homeowners and provide the best experience possible for golfers. Recreation Advisory This month I feel the need to talk about how the Clubhouse gets decorated for each holiday. Who does it? Over the years, we have been blessed to have private residents who liked to decorate and were willing to take on the decorating responsibilities for our Clubhouse. It is a nice group of helpful hands. However, several of these volunteers have stepped down. Now we are in need of a central group to take over this responsibility. A decision was made to formally place this committee under the Recreation Advisory Committee purview. Thus, an Ad Hoc Committee was formed with a chair who would meet in a team format with the volunteers who still wanted to decorate. This is a group of residents who have come forward to continue creating decorations for the different holidays. You do not have to be a member of RAC. The Decorating Committee is a separate entity. Now, here is an invitation to all of our residents to give us a call and come join us. We have a good time and with team work much gets accomplished. Don't be bashful. We are very friendly and welcoming and are always looking for new ideas and new volunteers. That is what keeps everything pretty. Interested? With his help, there will be expanded programs on Channel 97, that we affectionately have titled "KSLCC 97." Look for updated program schedules posted on Good Day Sun Lakes Facebook page and on Sun Lakes website. It is difficult to have a consistent schedule as we never know how long a meeting will last or if there might be last-minute notices or town halls to broadcast and record. This requires that we modify the schedule constantly. Please refer to these two online sources for the latest program schedule. With the warmer weather, Hernan and crew will be out and about video recording many of the activities happening in our community. We want to show the new homeowners some of the activities they might want to get involved in or enjoy. If you see us, say Hi and wave. If you are in witness protection, let us know. If you want your club or group featured on Channel 97, send us the info at Gooddaysunlakes@ gmail.com. Safety Advisory Through March and April, our speed is increasing again. Securitas has noticed up to 40 mph on Country Club and Rivera. Unfortunately we did have a wreck on Country Club and caused a woman to be seriously injured after running into a landscaping truck on Country Club. Banning PD and Securitas attributed it to excessive speed. The first intersection coming into the Main Gate is very concerning for speed as many people walk their dogs there. Residents need to wear highly-visible or florescent clothes when walking in the night hours and carry a flashlight. Parking violations are back up also. They will be paving the RV lot shortly and will be posting notifications on that. Streets and speed humps will be next. The Community Awareness Group held a meeting with Waste Management for more details and came away more confused than we already were. ~ Bill Bess, (951) 769-8022
