The Community Awareness Program wants to keep you updated on incidents that happen here in Sun Lakes, present programs to keep you informed, and have guest speakers to let you know what is happening in our community. At our April meeting in the main ballroom, Doug Tani who is the Public Sector Manager and James Delgado who is the Recycling Compliance Representative from Waste Management gave a presentation on recycling. Following are the highlights on recycling. In your recycle container: • Glass bottles and jars • Plastic bottles and containers • Food and beverage cans • Food and beverage cartons • Paper, newspaper, and magazines • Flatten all cardboard and paperboard In your green waste container: • Yard waste • Produce • Dairy • Bread, pasta, rice, grains, coffee grounds • All food waste • Meat, fish & poultry In your trash container: • Plastic bags & film • Foam cups & containers • Bio degradable bags • Dirty diapers • Dog or cat waste • Soiled paper towels or tissues If you don't know where to put an item, throw it in your brown trash container. Absolutely no NEEDLES are to go in any trash containers. Residents can receive one free Sharps container per calendar year. To request your Sharps container, please call Waste Management and place your order and one will be delivered to your home, (800) 423-9986. Each container comes with a pre-paid postal approved return box. Program for June Join us on June 29, 1 to 3 pm, in the Main Clubhouse Ballroom for a presentation by Fire Captain Matthew Escandel from Cal Fire. He will have fellow firefighters and paramedics present as well. They will share information on how to keep your house fire safe plus many other valuable tips. There will be a box at the Main Clubhouse reception desk where you may submit a question which they will try to answer. A flyer will be in the lobby and on Channel 97. Please come out and join us. PREVENTION TIPS: Please be careful on selecting your caregivers. There have been problems here in Sun Lakes with some caregivers taking advantage of our residents. If you suspect elder and dependent adult abuse, take the time to report it! Call Riverside County Adult Protective Services, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week (800) 491-7123. Types of abuse include physical, financial, abduction, abandonment, isolation, emotional and neglect. You can be anonymous when you report. If interested, our next monthly steering committee meeting will be on June 1 in the North Clubhouse from 1 to 3 pm. Hope to see everyone on June 29. Let's all be informed and stay safe.
