FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | JULY 2022 41 The club has screenings on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. We screen films you won't find at the big cineplexes: documentaries, indie films, foreign films and other little gems that don't get wide release. This month we're screening two of my "guilty pleasures:" Our first screening for the month, on Sunday, July 10 at 6 pm, is the film La La Land (USA 2016, 2 hrs. 8 min., English). Here is a brief description from IMDb.com: "Aspiring actress Mia serves lattes to movie stars in between auditions and jazz musician Sebastian scrapes by playing cocktail-party gigs in dingy bars. But as success mounts, they are faced with decisions that fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other threaten to rip them apart." Our second screening for the month, on Sunday, July 24 at 6 pm, is the film Crazy, Stupid, Love (USA 2011, 1 hr. 58 min., English). Here is a brief description from IMDb.com: "Cal (Steve Carell) and Emily (Julianne Moore) have the perfect life together living the American dream… until Emily asks for a divorce. Now Cal, Mr. Husband, has to navigate the single scene with a little help from his professional bachelor friend Jacob Palmer (Ryan Gosling). Make that a lot of help…" All of our screenings are followed by lively discussion about the film; we'd love to have you join us. The Lodge Theater has very limited seating, so if you're interested in our screenings, come early; we hope to see you there. Please note that all films announced are subject to availability. If you have any questions about the Counter Culture Cinema Club or want to recommend a film, please email Micki Rosen at michelesrosen@gmail.com. ~ Micki Rosen Counter Culture Cinema Club Classic Film Group For all Alfred Hitchcock fans, come to The Lodge Theater on July 26 at 6 pm for our showing of Hitchcock's movie Lifeboat, the first film in the series of limited-setting films. It's a dramatic war thriller featuring six men and three women against the sea and each other. In an open boat adrift in the sea, who goes primitive first? A man or a woman? A tense Hitchcock thriller, based on a John Steinbeck novella, American and British civilians who have survived the sinking of their ship by a German submarine struggle to reach land in a crowded lifeboat. The survivors are from a variety of backgrounds and gather in one of the lifeboats. Trouble begins when they pull a man out of the water who turns out to be from the U-boat. When the German officer is allowed on board, his presence exacerbates the tension on the boat. Soon treachery ensues, and the population of the vessel gradually decreases as conflicts come to a head. Hitchcock proves he can wring suspense from the most confined of settings aboard a small boat teeming with vivid personalities in this maritime thriller. It's Hitchcock's answer to the perpetual film school dilemma of making a movie on a boat, one of a filmmaker's biggest challenges. Lifeboat is a textbook example of how it's done right. ~ Paul Plamondon, 4seasonsmoviegroup@gmail.com BECOME ENERGY INDEPENDENT! DRILL YOUR OWN OIL!
