12 | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2022 | DISASTER PREPAREDNESS LECTURE TO BE HELD "The Twelve Steps of Disaster Preparedness" will be the subject of a lecture to be presented by the Riverside County Emergency Management Department for the benefit of Sun Lakes residents. The date of the event will be Saturday July 30 at 2 pm, and will be held here in Sun Lakes at the Main Ballroom. All residents are invited to attend. EPAP is Sun Lakes' own Emergency Preparedness organization, and we welcome the opportunity to build stronger working relationships with Riverside County. It is especially important for us as Sun Lakes residents to be prepared for any possible disaster, natural or man-made, and learning new perspectives from the County can help you and your family be better prepared. Riverside County is a key link to State and Federal emergency preparedness resources. EPAP is working with the County to incorporate additional emergency training in its programs, and the CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training program provided by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) is an important resource. Teri Guillen and Candace Jenkins of the EPAP Executive Team have recently taken the CERT training course and are evaluating how EPAP can incorporate new methods into our own Sun Lakes training for residents. We invite all Sun Lakes residents to join us at this training session, and hear more about how we can learn the latest about Emergency Preparedness. FIRST AID TRAINING FOR SUN LAKES RESIDENTS In an emergency situation, would you want to know how to help someone who is injured, bleeding, possibly in shock, choking, or has a broken bone? We never know when we will be faced with an emergency; you may need to help a member of your family, a neighbor or friend. To do this, you need to be prepared and trained to administer First Aid until help arrives. EPAP is in need of volunteers with First Aid training. To better serve our Community, EPAP is helping to facilitate Basic First Aid Training Classes here in Sun Lakes. These classes are open to all residents, and will be taught by Sun Lakes resident Linda Myers-Kalb, RN, certified Red Cross First Aid Instructor. Classes are 6 hours long — you will have a choice of two 3-hour classes or one 6- hour class. The Red Cross class fee per person is $22. Advance registration is required. Tues., July 12, 9 am – 12 pm (three hours part 1), and Thurs. July 14, 9 am – 12 pm (three hours part 2) (must attend both sessions) Tues., July 26, 9 am – 4 pm (six-hour class, bring lunch) Thurs., July 28, 9 am – 4 pm (six-hour class, bring lunch) All classes will be held at the EPAP Operations Center in the Maintenance Building, 1300 Country Club Dr. Parking on Country Club Dr. is allowed for this event.
