| SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2022 | | SUN LAKES LIFESTYLES | JULY 2022 | 61 61 The Sun Lakes Tennis Club, nearly 90 members strong, follows bylaws that require quarterly meetings, the last of which was held on May 14. The members of the Executive Committee, in light of many other activities taking place, were pleased to have about two dozen in attendance. The evening included a delicious meal. A highlight of the evening was a presentation given by our very own retired tennis pro, Phil Hazelton. On any given day, Phil can be observed on one of our tennis courts working with players who seek to improve their strokes and strategies. Phil has often assisted with our annually held tournaments. In addition, Phil has been helpful with our Lifestyles articles the past two years, each time offering a Tennis Tip. In his presentation, Phil offered not just one tip, but three, aimed at those in their "fourth quarter of life." According to Phil: First, stretch before and after play, especially the Achilles. Then, use the short court to warm up at the start of practice prior to play. Second, hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Hot weather demands hydration other than energy drinks. A cold pack around the neck will help with reducing body heat. Third, find an instructor to assist with weaknesses in your game. Accurate feedback and helpful guidance about techniques and strategies can make a big difference. In addition, use YouTube videos to study and improve one's skills. Thank you, Phil, for your many ways of making each one of us better at the game of tennis. In conclusion, a reminder that gender neutral, drop-in play is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting at 8 am. A nominal fee ($1) covers the cost of tennis balls. Also, the first Saturday of each month a Skills Session (8 am) and a Mixed Doubles Mixer (8:30 am) is open to all Sun Lakers at no cost. Phil is often the one who leads our Skills Session where he reminds us again and again to keep our eye on the ball and the fun in the game. Tennis
