12 | THE COLONY NEWS | JULY 2022 | COMMITTEE NEWS By Greg Hill The Communications committee has had a very active fiscal year, and as a new one begins, we are continuing to Phase B of our Outreach to History project. The subcommittee members have been very diligent in researching and discussing the past of The Colony with residents. To make our Outreach project successful, we need the cooperation of all residents. If you were asked or approached to do an on-camera interview, don't hesitate; it is not embarrassing or uncomfortable and will provide valuable information to The Colony of the future. The resulting video archives will record the past, and if all goes well, we will also create a history documentary that can be used for recruiting new residents as well as telling our story. Our Colony Daze project is proceeding well, but we need your help on this also! It would be very helpful if each resident would take advantage of the camera in their cell phone to just take a picture of an event or a moment that represents what they feel is an aspect of living in a successful 55+ community and submit your photos to us. The next section of our report was submitted by the Website Subcommittee, written by Mia Jensen. NEW WEBSITE UPDATE AND PREVIEW: Last year, the Communications committee established a web subcommittee to review, create a plan, and implement a new website for The Colony. The current site posted at thecolonyatcaloakshoa.com will be reimagined to provide a refreshed public view for potentially new residents as well as a comprehensive private/resident view for Colony homeowners and residents, board members, committee and club members, and Associa staff. The first step was to review the current site and research other HOA websites to create a preliminary list of needs, then gather input from an Advisory Panel to better understand the demographics and needs of the community. A survey of Advisory Panel members determined that an effective website would be inviting for new residents; attractive and easy to use by seniors; and offer one place for all information and communication. The next step was to conduct a survey to gather feedback from homeowners and residents. We received 265 completed surveys which helped us devise a content and navigation scheme that includes the main sections: Home, Lifestyle, Activities, Calendar, HOA, Communications, The Colony News, and EBLASTS. After researching other HOA websites of similar 55+ communities and reviewing website builders and platforms, the subcommittee recommended engaging HENXP Designer to build and host the new website. We expect to launch the new website in phases beginning with phase one in the coming months.
