HOA NEWS | THE COLONY NEWS | JULY 2022 | 3 From the Board of Directors By Bruce Dalfonso, Vice President Your Board of Directors and Golf Committee, along with many other Colony volunteers, have been busy preparing for the potential acquisition of the golf course. A Golf Course Acquisition Team has been put in place, which includes members of the Board along with several other Colony residents. They are volunteering their time and expertise to make sure we can hit the ground running in the event we acquire the golf course. This team will be disbanded as soon as a professional golf managing agent is in place. We have formed six subcommittees, each to address specific areas of our journey. You can see the structure in the chart below along with the point person for each subcommittee. There are two new names on our chart you may not be familiar with, Dave Funston and Robert Sturm. They are both Colony residents who bring some unique skill sets to the table. Dave is a current PGA Professional with his Class A certification. He has experience in managing all the different elements of a golf course along with the day-to-day operations. Robert is a food industry expert who has run restaurants from large to small. He has even prepared meals for Presidents and flown on Air Force One multiple times. Both have a team of people working to ensure we have a plan in place for each area of operations that can be implemented in the event we acquire the golf course. It is critical that the golf course attracts more golfers. If the course closes before a foreclosure sale, it greatly reduces the chances of acquiring it. Dave and Robert have already been instrumental in working with the receiver to discover new revenue opportunities through marketing and food and beverage. You may have noticed the new sign out on Jackson Avenue. We thank Dave Funston for that donation. He has also worked with the local area to bring in two Junior Golf leagues that will begin playing at Cal Oaks in July. Robert has been instrumental in working with the receiver to get the beverage cart out on the course on weekends, along with offering deli sandwiches and a spot to eat on the patio. Many volunteers within the community have stepped up to assist the committee. People stop me every day asking, "What can I do to help?" Even if we do not win the bid to acquire the course, the efforts of these people will not be lost. Situations like these pull people together and create community. It's great to see Colony residents working together to make this place better for us all. GOLF COURSE ACQUISITION TEAM
