14 | THE COLONY NEWS | JULY 2022 | COMMITTEE NEWS The ACC would like to thank The Colony homeowners for their home improvements! The Colony is looking great! Home improvement is contagious. Is it spreading on your street? Again, thank you for showing your "Pride of Ownership." When painting your house, please include all stucco as well as outer and inner stucco walls. Do not forget your chimney, the roof vents if they are peeling, and your garage door. An often- overlooked item is the clay tubulars protruding from the area above the garage. They may need a little repair and paint due to age. Taking care in painting the whole house at one time will save calling a painter for separate jobs. When painting and repairing backyard wrought iron fences, please make sure added black lattice (only) or black mesh (only) is on the inside of your yard. Also, if you have added a two- by-four to the bottom, check for termite damage on that wood before it spreads. We highly suggest you look at the back of your wrought iron fence. While out on home inspections, we see a lot of rust and rot beginning on the bottoms of these fences. Some homeowners who caught the rust on the bottom rail were able to replace just that portion and not the entire fence. ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL By Gloria Brosky & Diane Schultz ACCESS CONTROL & SAFETY The Access Control and Safety Committee is an advisory committee to The Colony Homeowners Association Board of Directors and the General Manager relating to all issues of community access and safety of residents and visitors. In the event of a major disaster, our committee will work hand-in- hand with the Emergency Preparedness Committee to assist in maintaining the integrity and safety of all Colony residents. Our function is to evaluate access control and general safety of The Colony and the effectiveness of Community Patrol. The Access Control Committee receives monthly reports and statistics from Community Patrol (Nordic Security). These reports include traffic enforcement, emergency responses and incident reports. The monthly report from Community Patrol indicates the following activity and violations that Nordic Security responded to and/or assisted in keeping with the safety and welfare for the Association: Security Statistics • 23,031 Jackson gate entries • 5 property/residence checks • 18 Stop sign violations • 30 Medical, fire and police incidents • 28 various parking violations • 5 Trash can citations • 48 Garage doors open • 35 Miscellaneous incidents By Bruce Hartwig, 696-5115
