FOUR SEASONS BREEZE | AUGUST 2022 9 By Jerry Monahan, Board President There was a Beaumont Planning Commission meeting held to determine if the Planning Commission would recommend the Summit Station Industrial Project which is approximately 200 acres along the south side of Cherry Valley Boulevard east of Interstate 10. The meeting was attended by many Beaumont residents. Approximately 45 people spoke against the Summit Station Industrial Project, delivering emotional testimony during the Planning Commission meeting. In the end, the Beaumont Planning Commissioners voted 4 to 1 against approval of the project. The Commissioners decided to recommend that the City Council of Beaumont not certify an environmental report for the project, and also reject a General Plan Amendment, the Summit Station Specific Plan, a tentative Parcel Map and Plot Plans. The Beaumont City Council will now consider the Planning Commission's recommendation and decide whether or not to accept it. The Beaumont City Council could come to a decision during the July 19 City Council meeting. Hopefully by the time you read this article, the decision would have been made to support the Planning Commission's decision not to recommend the project and listen to the residents of the city of Beaumont who do not support having the Summit Station. Thank you to the Beaumont Planning Commission for listening to the pleas of our residents of Beaumont and supporting them. Currently the Pass Action Group is waiting for the Administrative Record to be compiled by the city of Banning in the PAG's lawsuit against the city and the developers. Once the Administrative Record is complete, the attorneys for the Pass Action Group, the city of Banning, and the developer's attorneys will meet with Judge Craig Reimer. The next steps in the process will be determined and outlined in the meeting that will be held in August of 2022. The Pass Action Group's goal is that Judge Reimer will rule in favor of the PAG and rescind the approval that the city of Banning has granted on the project. AB2840 is on hold. This bill would have required a 1,000 foot buffer zone between logistic centers larger than 1,000 square feet and homes, schools, day care centers, playgrounds, health care centers, and other places especially at risk from air pollution blamed on the warehouse-bound diesel trucks. Assembly Majority Leader Eloise Gomez Reyes, made the decision to hold AB2840 in the Senate Governance and Finance Committee. The bill stalled in the State Senate Committee on Government and Finance. Senate Majority Leader Reyes said she intends to retool the bill and try again. So for now, AB2840 will not affect any of the proposed or pending warehouse projects. If you want to donate to the legal fees and other necessary expenses incurred by PAG in this fight against the warehouse project across from Sun Lakes, please send the donation made payable to the Pass Action Group's Treasurer, Jeannie Lloyd, at 4832 Crenshaw Circle, Banning, CA 92220. Online donations can be made at www.givebutter.com/ passactiongroupbanning. If you would like more information, please go to www. passactiongroup.com. The members of the Pass Action Group thank all the residents of the Banning and Beaumont communities who have supported them in this important endeavor.
