We are once again very thankful to the homeowners who are submitting applications for home improvements and repairs! We are averaging approximately 25 applications every two weeks. Thank you for keeping The Colony looking great! A little background on our committee. Our group consists of seven members. When applying, we look for prior experience with building or remodeling, or broad experience with housing. Past committee experience is helpful, as we work together as a group. What is immensely helpful is a passion for helping others maintain their homes and keeping our home values and community looking top notch. Recently, we heard comments from homeowners that we are playing favorites when conducting home inspections. We are never a part of the inspecting group for our own street for that very reason. Our homes are inspected like everyone else's. We have had to replace fences, paint our homes and other such home repairs. Please remember, we want our community to be beautiful, but we are here to help you avoid more expensive repairs by making repairs while they are small fixes. Be objective and view your home as others may. • Is your fence tilting, top beams lifting, in need of repair or paint? • Is your wrought iron rusting away, or are pieces missing? If you need to replace it, did you know you can replace it with aluminum? • Has it been 10 years since you painted your house? Do you have streaks of black or faded color running down walls? Do you have areas where the stucco is buckling? • How about your garage door? Does it need a fresh coat of paint or dents removed? These are the things that send up red flags to us. We do not like having to notify homeowners of any expensive repairs or painting, but that is part of owning a home in an association. Also, when reviewing applications, we are strictly required to follow the CC&Rs and our Architectural Control Committee guidelines. Our individual opinions cannot and do not factor into our decisions. Once again, thank you for making The Colony look great! ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL By Gloria Brosky & Diane Schultz ACCESS CONTROL & SAFETY By Bruce Hartwig, 696-5115 The Access Control and Safety Committee is an advisory committee to the Colony Homeowners Association Board of Directors and the General Manager relating to all issues of community access and safety of residents and visitors. In the event of a major disaster, our committee will work hand-in- hand with the Emergency Preparedness Committee to assist in maintaining the integrity and safety of all Colony residents. Our function is to evaluate access control and general safety of The Colony and the effectiveness of Community Patrol. The Access Control Committee receives monthly reports and statistics from Community Patrol (Nordic Security). These reports include traffic enforcement, emergency responses and incident reports. The monthly report from Community Patrol indicates the following activity and violations that Nordic Security responded to and/or assisted in keeping with the safety and welfare for the Association. Security Statistics: • 23,876 Jackson gate entries • 11 Property/residence checks • 11 Stop sign violations • 23 Medical, fire and police incidents • 13 Various parking violations • 24 Trash can citations • 49 Garage doors open • 30 Miscellaneous incidents 16 | THE COLONY NEWS | AUGUST 2022 |
